More gloomy news from the Wanderer. Nuns like Sr. Turley should simply be turned out. Bishops like Hubbard are the hubs of everything that is currently wrong with the Catholic Church in America. I suspect Hubbard, like his buddy Weakland will do all he can to destroy what's left of his diocese before he's forced out. To those of you in Albany, God speed -- work quickly...

Terence Hallinan, the (bwahahahahahahaha) COMMIE who HIMSELF sexually harassed a female who cut his hair...and OTHER WOMEN...wouldn't do ANYTHING about homosexual priests who sexually abuse teen boys and boys. He's got the WORST record of prosecution in the USA I believe.

Grrrr....
"No longer do they need to take lifelong vows of chastity and obedience to get an education. No longer do they need to rely on a pastor for his/her education. They have their own. No longer do they need immigrant churches on every corner of major cities. No longer do they need to envision a better life in the hereafter. They have one now."

Exactly. Imagine this guy prosecuting priests sent to him by a corrupt(?) bishop. It's almost a Pontius Pilate thing.

A truly low-class comment. I pray for your conversion from the vulgarist sect you have placed yourself in.

Missed that one, didn't I? LOL!

Amen. May St. Isaac Jogues, St. Charles Garnier, St. Jean Brebeuf, and all the North American martyrs pray for us!

"No longer do they need to take lifelong vows of chastity and obedience to get an education. No longer do they need to rely on a pastor for his/her education. They have their own. Why is it supposedly a bad thing that Catholic men don't have to become priests to become educated? Why should Catholics rely entirely on their pastors for their education (did they ever?) I can see why one would be upset that people (Catholic OR other Christians) don't rely on God and the promise of heaven, but what does this have to do with becoming educated?

The author is overheated.

Meanwhile, as bishops remove from parishes an increasingly substantial percentage of their remaining priests, Amchurchs bishops and bureaucrats appear strangely unfazed by mounting lawsuits, unmoved by the loss of confidence they have suffered in the eyes of the faithful and the American public, and determined to press on with a declericalizing agenda instituted in the 1960s.One major survey of nearly 500 self-identified Catholics, reported USA Today on June 25, found that 90% of the faithful want bishops who protected molesting priests to be removed. A Washington Post survey a week earlier found similar sentiment.
While bishops seek to placate riled Catholics and the public, the trend now is for judges and prosecutors to press for more archival material that will only soil bishops reputations further while politicians such as occurred recently in California extend the statute of limitations and lower the standards for prosecutions, thus opening up more cases for discovery, depositions, and document demands.
This story is still being effectively spun (by Bishops) and the Wander seems to be reporting the results of the spin:
- pederast priests are being blamed
- civil/criminal proceedings will only be directed at pederast priests
- Bishops are sacrificing accused priests to appear responsive
- Bishops are containing the damage to a 'priestly pederasty problem'
- The larger incidence of homosexuality is as yet unaddressed
- The homosexual agenda to liberalize the church continues unabated and is spinning further liberalization as the solution to the problems.
This may change as those priests being sued and or ejected begin to drag others and bishops down with them - maybe.
But in the midst of this crisis, many bishops appear isolated and oblivious.
This is known as hiding in plain sight.

Allegations that the sacraments were used to abuse of unwitting and vulnerable children (and even adults) raise concerns that some postconciliar innovations provided opportunities for sexual predators. I don't know if I want to wade in here, it is pretty deep. It's the "fruit" thing. (no pun intended)
To: Antoninus
"Amen. May St. Isaac Jogues, St. Charles Garnier, St. Jean Brebeuf, and all the North American martyrs pray for us!" Looks like you've read your Francis Parkman (The Jesuits in North America). What those men accomplished in their lives, and the fates they suffered at the hands of the Iroquois and other Northeastern tribes makes the current North American Church seem absolutely trivial and ridiculous in contrast.
To: american colleen
Maybe we should just send postcards to our bishops stating:
"Its the 'fruit' thing.Deal with it."
It's simple,to the point and true!

They're Here
They're Queer
they've ruined our church....
Deal with it.
I agree the "charismatic" stuff and the political liberalization of the Church in the 60's has ruined the church. Talk to some of the nuns and you will find a strong "feminist" identity /lesbian stance also. The fact is that there was an easy loving victim.. the Church, who was abused by the predators... and when the predators are in charge of the predators.... the destruction of the church was started. They will hide behind the "forgiving" and "understanding" but not truly acknowledge that they've done "WRONG".
To: Antoninus
Indeed, the July 7 edition of Our Sunday Visitor includes a report, "Clergy Re-Examine Confessional Design," which revisits the issue of personalized, face-to-face Confessions in "reconciliation rooms" not only for penitents protection, but also for priests. I guess this innovation didn't go over too well with God.
