A trickle of Somali immigrants have left Nashville, but that may soon turn into a flood if they remain unable to send money to families living in poverty in Africa. ''I like Tennessee. It has always been a nice place,'' said Ibrahim Ali, 26, speaking by phone from his new home in Columbus, Ohio. ''But my family in Mogadishu cannot survive without the money I send.''

Or we could take the useless welfare moochers and put them to work. If we have to have immigrants to survive (which is propaganda in my opinion), let's at least see that they are from the Judeo-Christian ethic. This would qualify most Latinos, many Eastern Europeans, some Africans, and some Islanders. The last I checked, most of those folks were not trying to kill us. But how about a timeout on immigration and let's see if we can survive without outside help?

This also brings up the point of our involvement in so many of these wars. When we take a side in a regional conflict, we are then obligated to accept the "refugees" from that country. The old joke is for some country to start a civil war and then everybody can apply for refugee status and the entire population comes to America.

We have seen this with happen with Cuba, Viet Nam, Laos, Hati, Somalia, Albania, Iraq, Iran. The list is endless. Here in Tennessee we got Somalis, a large number of Kurds from Iraq, many Albanians from the Balkans, and a large number of Vietnamese.

Don't get me wrong. Some of these folks are great additions and work hard. I personally love the gorgeous women in the Latino and Vietnamese populations! They beat the average no-make-up, pants wearing, butch-looking, American Femin-Nazi every day of the week. They like being women. (Imagine that!) These groups are often family oriented and definitely work hard.

The question is, can we realistically take in everyone even from our allies? Surely we can draw some minimum standards based on American values as we evaluate potential immigrants.
