This article was educational (and I think has been posted at least in part on FR before, but I can't find it right now): Prominent Canadian Fluoridation Proponent Changes Mind.

Note that high US obesity rates might be at least partially related to flouride consumption - has to do with flouride getting in the way of iodine absorption in the thyroid, impacting thyroid production and metabolism. (Flouride was once used to kill off overactive thyroid. Now we get it in our water.) Countries in Europe with less obesity also do not flouridate H20.

I have wondered whether the reasons Americans fight with obesity could be related to city water.

My husband and I moved overseas, and my weight dropped 20 pounds without eating differently. When we would go back to the states, my wieght would go up. When we returned to our overseas home, it went down again. Now we live in a very rural area and we have well water, and I don't have to fight with my weight. So I wonder if you may be on to something there.

What about colon cancer? Anyone heard that fluoride prevents proper metabolism of magnesium?
