Heads Up San Antonio area: More heavy rain moving in?

Posted on 07/04/2002 8:53:30 PM PDT by newsperson999

Here we go again.....A line of tunderstorms has formed SE of the city moving slowly NW..they are training over the same area dropping 1-3 inches per hour and will move into the city within the next hour. scattered heavy rain showers are developing throughout the area dropping brief heavy rain.. The situation is very critical on local rivers at record levels and any rain that falls will runoff and cause widespread flooding everywhere. I hope they weaken before they move into the city..but they are actully getting stronger..the band isn't very wide maybe 15-20 miles but it 30 miles long and will move over the same area over and over again..I will have details for the next few hours.....
New radar shot shows heavy rain also developing over kendall county

Any news on the Guadelupe up at Kerrville or Hunt?

The Guadalupe isn't bad here, because the rain isn't upstream from us-it's all here, and we're sending it downstream. But the creeks here are murder. 5 more houses over where Texana_RED's house washed away on Tuesday, were destroyed last nite when they washed away, too. And 200 homes flooded.

I see more rain headed our way, too, but thanks for the heads up, even though I have figured out the water always wins-at least in my den-For some reason, I just feel obligated to try to get it out of there when it starts coming in under the baseboards!

The Pedernales crested around noon today after having come up two feet higher than the crest on tuesday thanks to very heavy rain in Gilespie county. Lost a section of my fence and just got a temporary segment up at sunset as the rains returned. At least the stock aren't out yet. The river took all day to drop three feet. It's raining hard here now. Probably won't sleep much tonight.

This is getting to be ridiculous. Take a look at this storm total image from the NWS:

The white dots are where the total is pegged at 25 inches of rain. Large areas of western Bexar county have had over 21 inches.

And as if this weren't enough, I see articles where Mexico is finally agreeing to send you some more water. When it rains...etc.

The water that Mexico is sending deep South Texas is like a spit in the bucket compared to the water they owe the U.S. That part of the state has seen little of this rain and they are in a severe drought that makes the drought in the northeast look like child's play. The only way they will get any of this water is if any of these rivers or creeks from central Texas flow into the Rio Grande and most of them don't.

I think that's Kerr County where some of those white dots are...I cannot take another 4 am invasion of water. Of course, I am glad I am not in Castroville right now where the release from Canyon Damn on the Guadalupe is headed. On the news today, they said that 68 billion gallons of water had rained on Bexar county since July 1st. At least I think it was 68.

Is that what damaged 290? I read that there was damage from flood on 290 in Gillespie County.

Sorry to sound so lost, but I'm in Illinois where we're currently sweltering. I used to spend part of my summers at Camp Mystic up at Hunt and I'm hoping all is well up that way.

The Pedernales crested around noon today after having come up two feet higher than the crest on tuesday thanks to very heavy rain in Gilespie county.

Not sure where on the Pedernales you are, but we have a place near Lower South Grape Creek where it runs into the Pedernales, and that's flooded (Gillespie County), and I am wondering now, if from the back side, the Pedernales has risen across the fields, and flooded the basement, or is lapping on the steps of the front porch from the Grape Creek Side.

Worrying about all the rain in Kerrville, I hadn't even given a thought to the farm over there.
