Happy Birthday.

I mowed the yard, went to buy more fireworks, grilled burgers and brauts for the whole family, and set off an obscene amount of fireworks. My neighbors even cancelled going to the local fireworks show after remembering my New Years display. I had to keep telling them i'll start as soon as it gets dark. I still have plenty left.

I tend to tell them how much I appreciate their work and then drop it. (But then, I am not a groupie and I don't collect autographs.)

Now THAT sounds like a super day!

Fireworks are only now just getting underway here in Seattle. (And, yes....it's cold and raining again this year....sigh.....)

Once again I spent weeks finding new fireworks gifs with the intention to use them on my profile --and once again I didn't get around to arranging them. So here are some of my favorites that I have found and got around to uploading.

Just skated back from Marina del Rey display. Very nice! False start on the finale so I missed the end of the show but another great show, nonetheless. Very nice Cypress tree/waterfall effects later in the show as well as some interesting shape charges this year. Traffic miserable but the skates blow through the traffic perfectly. A gal pal and I initiated a group sing of "America, the Beautiful" and "The Star Spangled Banner," which were very well recieved.

I'm off to Indy tomorrow. God bless and good night!

In an earlier post, I had asked what was the polite thing to do when meeting a prominent person at a public gathering whose work you admire when that person is not trying to bring attention to themselves.

AGYG, that's a good answer. Thanks!

Thank you very much. So far, 55 is a lot like 54, only crankier - if that's possible.

While driving home from a movie yesterday, with my two teenage sons in the backseat, my 17 year old whistled "God Bless America".
I cried.

...hope the 4th of July was a relaxing and enjoyable day for y'all.

It's been a good one, even for those of us who put a little time in at work
on this "holiday".
I'm sure Jefferson, Adams and all those extremists who founded our country gently smile when
some of us take our liberty seriously and decide that we'll even work a bit on a holiday.

Always good to hear from NZ and get a bit of a bit of kind AND honest feedback
about how we Americans (and some of our crazy politicians) are seen around the world.

....The first time I saw the fireworks at the Mall was the Bicentennial....

I was part of that huge and wonderful celebration too. I will never forget coming home on the Metrobus. My then 6 year old son fell asleep with his head on a complete stranger's shoulder. That bus was packed with no-hyphen Americans.
This year I watched the Towson, MD parade. Lots of red, white and blue. Got to shake hands with Michael Steele, GOP candidate for Lt. Governor. He and Bob Ehrlich, both from working class backgrounds, exemplify what is great about this land of freedom and opportunity.

Dang! What kind of bait did you use to catch that?

Mrs. Huck caught that fish using a Texas rigged plastic worm.

I attended the Fourth of July soiree in Fort Hunt Park outside of Washington, DC. Thanks to the Leadership Institute for putting this together. We heard excellent speeches by Asa Hutchinson and George Allen, and had people shouting "UNDER GOD!" during the pledge of allegiance.

I was there. Wasn't it nice to see Sen. Allen recognized with LI's Conservative of the Year Award for holding firm to his conservative principles. Some others from FR congegrated under a shady tent. I'm sorry we missed you!
