I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, find that the situation that gave rise to the declaration of a national emergency... with respect to the Taliban, in allowing territory under its control in Afghanistan to be used as a safe haven and base of operations for Usama bin Ladin and the Al-Qaida organization, has been significantly altered given the success of the military campaign in Afghanistan, and hereby revoke that order and terminate the national emergency declared in that order with respect to the Taliban.

The key here is the use of the term, success of the military campaign in Afghanistan. America's military engagement in Afghanistan, has been a success.

Not to diminish our troops, they've done a good job, but I believe they've now been put into the same situation as our troops in Kosovo and the Balkans. They'll be in Afganistan for a long time.

The reasons behind the Afghanistan conflict and our battles with the Taliban and Al Qaeda forces, are much different then our participation in Kosovo and the Balkans. As President Bush has said time and again, it will take some time before we have reached our goals and are satisfied with the outcome, in America's war on terrorism.

"it will take some time before we have reached our goals"

I guess that's the part that many of us truly don't grasp, just what are our goals in so many diverse areas.

It appears we shifted into a World Policeman job with no difinitive Statement of our Goals. Making the World Safe for Democracy, the entire World?

We meddle in every Nations affairs to attempt to mold them in our image, supposedly. And they Resent us for that.

As I understand it we have troops in a majority of the countries of the world, with large formations in places in Kosovo and Afghanistan and South Korea and probably a bunch of other places as well.

Meanwhile, our government tells us that they cannot secure our borders from the continuing immivasion from the south because they don't have the resources to do the job.

Hmmm, perhaps they could take some of those troops......Naaaah. Ain't gonna happen.

Your remarks are unfair and narrow minded.

President Bush and his administration couldn't have anticipated the heinous events of 9-11. It was the President's constitutional duty to call America's military to arms and undertake this war on terrorism. If you have the capacity and are willing to be honest about the historical circumstances of 9-11, it is quite natural to understand the neccessity for US military retaliation in Afghanistan and the long term nature of this dangerous encounter with international terrorism.

GW Bush came into office with the idea of keeping America out of the business of other nations. Bush had said on numerous occasions, that only when the interests of the USA are at stake, would he introduce our military armed forces into action. He didn't believe our military were the policemen of the world and he doesn't believe in meddling in the affairs of other nations. Events of 9-11 have warranted these actions and if you can't see that, then I do question your understanding of American patriotism and what it means to serve, protect and defend this great nation from all enemies, both foreign and domestic.
