In a city rife with bar hoppers and street people relieving themselves on sidewalks, alleys and busy streets, the stench of urine has joined fresh sourdough and coffee as among the city's famous aromas.

And the usually tolerant board of supervisors is no longer going with the flow.

Where have I been all these years? It was ALWAYS against the law to relieve oneself in public while I was growing up. I guess whatever oddball laws that have been changed in the last decade or two are coming full circle back closer to common sense. (and the way they were) Even the idiots in San Fran finally realize stepping over horse sh*t in 1890 in better than what was ok up until this vote.

Will "golden showers" still be permissible during the gay pride parade or will that require a special permit?

Downtown Houston has recently picked up a urine odor in the downtown streets as the nightlife/bar scene erupted.

Europe has permitted this openly but recently has tried to come to terms with the damage and health issues it causes.

This is one of the ways that I think that the US leads the world: public safety and health code regulations.

America had its problems and had them exposed in a number of ways in the 20th century (mostly the first half). "The Jungle" led to improvements in the slaughterhouse. The Coconut Grove fire led to improved fire codes and exits (China recently had a problem with this in a cyber cafe fire).

There is a stigma (sometimes deserved, sometimes not) around the world that "tap" water is not safe/proper to drink. Here in America we have no such concerns that we will be puking in 2 hours or will be taking in horrible toxins (including lead).

Even in the area of race relations. The rest of the world looked at us and said "why can't you get along". Now England, Germany, and other European countries are seeing economic refugees come to take public assistance and claim "political" asylum.

Italy elects porn stars (multiple) to their ruling class and have strong support for Musselini's grandaughter to seek office. < /rant >

What San Francisco ought to ban is urinating in others' oral cavities.

...``All you have to do to see that this is a problem is to walk down the streets of San Francisco and smell,''...

DUHHHHH CITY! This is not news. Were there EVER laws prohibiting public exhibitionist "public excretion", the pure acts of the "sheeshee" or "peepee"?

San Francisco was "reputed" to have some of the best bars and restaurants in the world. NOT ANY MORE...

Are the deep savory cooking odors masking the stench of years of accumulated human sh*t and piss emanating from all streets and parks and neighborhoods from a once habitable city?

Why would anyone in the world want to go to a town TO EAT where, in the past you may have stepped on animal manure, but now you may step in HUMAN PISS SOAKED FECES on the way to your SHRIMP COCTAILS, prepped by an AIDS INFECTED HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVIST, pre-cooked by another PISSED OFF (at his boyfriend) GAY Teenaged Prosti, and finally "finished off" by the boss HOMOSEXUAL CHEF who has had a tiff with the phone company (whom he believes is a straight conspiracy against him personally...)?

Too much use of the word HOMOSEXUAL ? Only used to make the point of who are the primary movers and shakers.

San Francisco, LOL !!!
Any parent who would deliberately raise children in San Francisco should be charged with child abuse.
What a sick, disgusting place.

Violators will be subject to fines up to $500.

I hope the fines aren't that steep in Little Rock, Arkansas. I plan on visiting the Clinton Presidential Library specifically so I can take a crap on the floor. Oh well, $500 would be worth it.

It's not pathetic that they took this action. It's pathetic that it took this long to make it illegal to urinate in public.

The line to urinate at Clinton's grave will make the annual Elvis graveside tribute seem short by comparison.

Hell if you drop your wallet in San Fran, you have to kick it all the way to Vegas before you can safely bend over to pick it up!!

Threaten the the homeless with a fine of $500 to make them stop?

Yeah, that'll work. Liberals are so stupid.

I wonder how much more we are paying for these creeps now compared to the mental hospitals the lawyers made us close.

The city next plans to institute a minimum "wage" for begging. No longer can passers by drop a penny, dime, or even a quarter.

All "donations" must be green. $2 minimum.

That money for the "homeless"'s fines has to come from somewhere. < 1/2 /scarasm >

Wasn't SF where the city tried to give the homeless their own shopping carts?

I doubt it will do any good. SF has become a complete pit. I grew up in the Bay Area and the decay of the city is evident everywhere. Having Willie Brown as Mayor certainly is not helping. There are bums everywhere and so much garbage it's disgusting. Even in the nicer districts, garbage is visible. Fortunately, SF has reasonably cool weather most of the year - otherwise, it would be really gross.

ROTFLMAO!!! Yoooou've done it!!!

The reason it's so funny is that it's actually possible.
What do you bet they start with "suggested donations"?

Vaguely related topic: A few years ago, in an experimental move designed to help pedestrians who otherwise had nowhere to relieve themselves, the City of New York installed these wonderful public toilets that self-cleaned themselves with scalding water after every use. (Thus removing the filth that typtically accumulates in such facilities.) They were right on the sidewalk and hooked into the water main. The masses loved 'em. Of course, the political left sued because the toilets were not handicapped accessible, and the City, rather than fight the monsters in court, simply got rid of all the johns. Chalk another one up for the Democrats.
