SACRAMENTO - California stood on the brink Monday of creating the most far-reaching rules of any state to combat global warming after the state Assembly narrowly passed a landmark measure to limit greenhouse gas emissions from cars, trucks and SUVs.

"GLOBAL WARMING WEAPON" :-?
DUMP DAVI$ & the Den of Socialists

GO SIMON

Davis has pretty much got to hate this one. If he goes one way, his Democrat constituents will be furious. If he goes the other, it'll hand Simon the club with which to beat him.
To: NormsRevenge
The initial "remedial actions" contemplated included:
- A 2-cent-per-mile tax on driving;
- A 50-cent-per-gallon gas tax;
- Huge fees for buyers of SUVs, vans, and pick-ups.
After the initial outcry, they have apparently dropped the gas tax...but the other ones (and more like them) are still "possibilities" that they don't want to discuss.

Every two years in California, you have to take your vehicle in for smog testing at a certified test station. I presume they'd just have the stations take odometer readings, forward them to the state along with your smog data. The tax would be added to your license renewal fees. At least, that's how I'd handle it if I were doing this.

I am putting this in my file of 'Reasons not to live in Kalifornia'

State takes aim at auto emissions.California has been taking aim at auto emissions for 30 years. But this is really dumb. Talk about doing the wrong thing for the wrong reasons--or as my auntie used to say, "It makes no difference how fast you are going if you are going down the wrong road."

Auto manufacturers would have until 2009 to implement the regulations. Oh please,please,please,please, dear auto manufacturers, tell CA to stick it. Refuse to sell vehicles there, and watch thh politicinas come crawling with their tails between their legs.

The idiots from the land of fruits and nuts are the best thing that ever happened to the other 49 States. If they get their way it means a major dspression for Kalifornia, but also prosperity for everyone else as businesses make their jailbreaks!

Yeah, real smart thinking. A depession in California would mean thirty million Americans who can't buy stuff made in the other forty nine states.
To: SoCal Pubbie
Oh lighten up. Millions will just all emigrate to freer climes where they can avoid all the Kalif fascistic crap. They've already started. Loads of money has jumped from Kalif into Nevada, Utah, Arizona, etc. None of these places are experiencing Kalif's woes.

You should see the array of socialist flaming hoops they've erected for us here in Missouri as part of the yearly "sticker renewal" process. By the time you get done paying property taxes and having your vehicle "safety tested" and "emission tested" and paying for all the inevitable state-mandated repairs, you (a) have no vacation time left (b) have no money left and (c) need a wheelbarrow to lug in all the documents required by the state before you're granted permission to drive your privately owned property on a road system that your tax dollars built. But what the hay, it all makes the suburban Gore voters feel good about themselves, so look for additional layers of bureaucracy in the very near future.
To: Seruzawa
The problem with millions of people leaving Kalifornia, is that they will bring their screwy ideas with them and eventually attemp to bring socialism to the other states faster than it is now advancing.

It isn't just a matter of selling vehicles here. A number of manufacturers have their national HQ here in the general L.A. area. I know. I work for Nissan. Toyota HQ is a few blocks away. Honda is nearby. Isuzu is further away, but here in the So. Cal. area. These companies and their affiliates, partners, suppliers, dealers, etc., represent a huge segment of the state's employers and economy. When the radical Leftists who dominate our legislature get finished, there won't be an auto industry in California. The ripple effect on the state's economy will be incalculable.
As for John McQueeq, what the f&%k is he doing insinuating himself into California lawmaking?! Hasn't he got enough to do for the misguided citizens of Arizona who elected him? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Go back where you came from McQueeg. We have enough problems here in California without you poking your sorry butt into our affairs.

Yeah, that is a problem. But, at least where I live, there aren't enough of them to pull that off. Also, the ones with the guts to leave aren't generally as coward-lib.
We do sell loads of electric power to Kalif though. The incompetence of the Kalif politicians and their screwy energy policy have been a real cornucopia in that regard.

You have either been asleep for the past 50 years or don't keep up with the news. When legislation passes here in Kali it's only a matter of time before it's served up fresh and steaming in the other 49. Did you miss this comment?
``This is the biggest environmental legislation to pass in the last 20 years,'' said a buoyant Nancy Ryan, an economist with Environmental Defense. ``This victory paves the way for progress on climate in all 50 states.''
If Davis signs this (and I don't think he'll dare to in an election year), you can expect Paul Newman and McQueeg visits, along with other liberal luminaries, to convince other state legislatures to climb on the bandwagon. Anyhow, I've just decided to double the amount of the check I'll be writing to Bill Simon's campaign in a few minutes.

Millions will just all emigrate to freer climes where they can avoid all the Kalif fascistic crap. That's what I was thinking. This will increase Ca's auto emissions - it's emission of autos filled with taxpayers looking for somewhere else to live.
To: Bernard Marx
Nah, sorry. You might like to think that everything you do is followed elsewhere, but it just ain't true. Here we've repudiated your stinkin' gun control laws, helmet laws and a slew of others. We'll be glad to keep selling you power, though.
Kalif is the land of arrogance to think that everyone follows its "lead".

Dream on. It's not Californians who introduce stupid ideas to other states -- or to California itself. It's paid legions of liberal activist lawyers and lobbyists, mainly from Washington D.C., who understand how the legislation game is played.
I'm an American, not just a Californian. You might consider taking off your blinders and widening your view of things.
To: Bernard Marx
"Broaden your views". That sounds suspiciously like my liberal acquaintances when I disagree with them. Everyone who disagrees is narrowminded.
How wonderful it is to be so wise.
