MAYOR Bloomberg better be more careful with his whispered asides during press conferences. Modern tape recorders pick up everything. Yesterday, as top cop Ray Kelly discussed July 4th anti-terrorism measures, and fended off security-sensitive questions about police firepower, one reporter pressed the issue by asking if cops were carrying much heavier weapons than in the past. Bloomberg chuckled: "Big enough to blow away the press." The remark went unheard until reporters played back their tape recorders.
