50 more angels in heaven. Many more tears for their parents.

Very, very sad news.

Many, many prayers for those involved.

This really hits home for me. We have a group of Belarussian children over here now on a similar trip. Prayers for all the parents.

Oh, no. This is tragic, and perhaps due to the airline being behind schedule. Being in a rush to get somewhere is all too common in disaster scenarios.

Russian charter jet that collided with cargo plane had 44 children aboard: travel agent

UEBERLINGEN, Germany, Jul 02, 2002 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- A Russian charter jet that collided in a fireball with a two-pilot cargo plane over southern Germany was carrying 44 children, a travel agency said Tuesday.

The Bashkirian Airlines Tu-154 from Moscow was bound for Barcelona, Spain, when it hit a Boeing 757 from the DHL delivery service at an altitude of about 12,000 meters (36,000 feet) late Monday, German officials said. All aboard both planes were believed to have died.

In Moscow, Tatiana Ostapenko said her travel agency helped organize a group of 49 travelers for the flight - 44 children and five adults accompanying them. German officials quoted the German Embassy in Moscow as saying that a total of 57 passengers and 12 crew were aboard the charter flight.

"We are in shock," Ostapenko said. "I haven't lost a single child for 20 years in my work in this business."
