SNOW: Secretary Powell, is Yasser Arafat a man permanently compromised by terror?
POWELL: We believe that the leadership he has provided to the Palestinian people has been inadequate, and we believe he is compromised. That's why the president strongly has advocated new leadership coming into the Palestinian government.

POWELL: Well, perhaps that's what Vice President Gore should have been talking about, what happened on their watch as opposed to the progress we've made on our watch, not only in Afghanistan but, I would also submit, in Sudan. Take that, Al Gore!
If people like Powell continue to say stuff like this, the mainstream media's conspiracy of silence about Mansoor Ijaz's charges may be impossible to keep up.

With all due respect to former Vice President Gore, that's patent nonsense.I'm pleased. Contrary to the rantings of some who don't like Powell around here, the General is a class act. Not only that, we need a contrarian in the administration; it forces GW, Cheney & Condi to think outside the box when necessary.

I'm with you...I like Powell and the contrast. It reminds me when Lincoln appointed his cabinet. Not "yes men" but people of opposite views. He'd listen to all and then decide.

Excellent interview. I heartily approve of the approach Pres. Bush is taking. It's realistic, and it ignores the screaming and mouth-foaming of the extremists on all sides.
I'd like also to point out the questions that Snow asked in this interview. It was an INTERVIEW, it wasn't a smack-down or an attempt to get a high-ranking government official to say something controversial. It is this sort of thing that FNN excels at, and the reason I believe they've taken over #1.

Even though I often disagree with Powell's views, I want President Bush to have multiple views before deciding on a course of action.

Good interview, and I like most of what Bush & Powell are doing.
I think, though, that explicitly cutting Arafat off is a mistake and it will most likely backfire. What is Bush going to do if Arafat wins a fair election? Before I speculated that Bush was intentionally ambiguous in his speach about this matter so that he would have some flexibility. But now I see that the Administration seems to have ruled out any possibility of working with Arafat, even if he gets elected. That's a mistake. It is always a mistake to limit your options, especially since the president's denunciations and ultimatums are not going to do anything to reduce the probability that Arafat gets elected. In fact, they might even make him more popular.

Personally, I don't like Powell. I think he's a rino, and way to liberal with serious isolationist tendency's however I will admit, that yes he is a class act, and he is very intelligent and has good diplotmatic skills, I just wish he was more of a realist, and had the views of Rumfeld and Cheney and the foreign policy vision and view of Condi Rice. He seems to be the left version of Rumfeld, with Rice (supposed to be) in the middle, however it appears that Rice and Rumfeld have the same views, I just wish Powell did too.

Yet, one would have to search long and hard to unearth any mention of Powell's zinger in the "mainstream" media. Rat bastards.

too bad he still has his head up the Saudi rear end. It will probably remain that way until we use Saudi infrastructure to attack Iraq. Suck it up.

Yup. I'm turning blue as I type. Once we've taken care of Hussein, hopefully then we'll let the Saudis have it.

The extremists are on the Palestinian side, and Bush is refusing to be any part of a Palestinian state until they are gone. BRAVO.
