Should The US Government Track Americans?

If you travel to another country, because you are a US citizen, the government does not check your passport to document when you leave. We believe in liberty in America, and free people can travel freely. But, since 9/11, there has been a shift in that thinking. Some in government are now calling for total tracking of all US citizens who leave the country.

In many other countries, citizens are already tracked as they move about within their country, and certainly if they exit the country, their governments know all. For instance, in New Zealand, the government diligently monitors the taxpayers travels. If someone owes taxes, child support, etc, that person will be apprehended at the airport, and not allowed to leave the country-period.

So the question remains that if a people are free, can their governments track them, and then in advanced stages of people monitoring, grab them at airports to stop them from leaving the country because they owe taxes, etc?

As integration occurs between law enforcement agencies here in the US, the day will come when some will demand that you and your family must be cleared witht the federal government before you will be allowed to fly to your foreign vacation.....unless we put a stop to it.

I'm not so sure that statement is correct. About two weeks ago, my wife and kids flew to the ROK to visit her family (jeez, I get to play bachelor for a month!! Well after two weeks I'm tired of it and ready for 'em all to come home!). Although there was no government agent there checking passports, my family was required to show their passports to the Northwest airline employee when they checked in their baggage. The NW employee typed in information from the passport in to her computer.

Now maybe this info doesn't go to the government. It might be just information the airline needs in case of an airline accident (may the Lord protect them).

As to whether they should or not, I do not think so. This is wrong IMO.

The airline checks your passport to make sure you can get into the country you are travelling to.

I didn't look at it from that perspective, but it makes perfect sense. Thanks

The government should be able to enforce laws that protect the citizens.

Like protecting our borders first before focusing on law abiding US citizens.
