Senate Majority Leader Thomas A. Daschle (D-S.D.) yesterday offered an unusually pointed critique of President Bush for his handling of the economy and other domestic concerns and accused him of being perhaps the most political chief executive in history.

"Almost on every one of the issues involving domestic policy, he has been a source of great disappointment," Daschle said yesterday during a lunch with Washington Post reporters and editors. "I think his record on the economy is a disaster. I think his record on fiscal policy is a disaster. I think his position on education has fallen far short of expectations."

THE REACTION OF BUSH CUTTING US OFF OF GIVING TO THE U.N."FAMILY PLANNING" FUNDS.

________________________________________________

An announcement, scheduled for about the time when the White House is planning a public campaign to promote adoption, would spark outrage from abortion rights supporters and many Democrats. But it is unlikely that backers of the international family planning funds could assemble enough votes to pass legislation overruling Bush.

Senate Majority Leader Thomas A. Daschle (D-S.D.), meeting with Washington Post reporters and editors yesterday, vowed "a major legislative fight" if Bush cuts off the funds. "We believe strongly that the programs work, that they merit U.S. support and that we should not be so dictatorial as to tell the U.N. not to do that," Daschle said. "We would use whatever legislative tools are available to us."

Bush would be smarter if he would propose family planning funding that is not tied to any abortion activities. That way he gets bonus points from a part of his base while minimizing the damage to those urban upper middle class Republicans and independents where he is already fairly weak relatively speaking.

I hear your politics. I do. But I do not think it is the federal governments role (nor especially the taxpayers) to not only fund welfare but also give out free birth control/at times abortions and condomns.

Eight years of Clinton has fooled many. Soon many will think that the federal government needs to fund pacifers in our mouths.

We get taxed to death literally.

I am ticked off enough at the ole orange lil UNICEF boxes at halloween years ago. What the hell did the U.N. do with that money? I'll tell ya what it funded Koffi's limo's,mansions and cars. If it truly went to starving children in the world there would be no starvation. (I think a billion dollars would have put a HUGE dent in the problem atleast)

I am a smoker,I pay enough taxes for my choice TO smoke and then flip the bill for lazy folks who don't want to work Or be responsible with "family planning." (I know of people first-hand who scam the system--black and white)Then I get taxed to death to buy anything including a dog. I don't think so. It is not mine nor the governments problem, bill, nor concern.
