Death to soccer-I hate it.About as exciting as watching paint dry and overdoing it will lead to rot of the cerebral cortex. It's also the number one sport in every single socialist, communist and European nation. Also in France which is all three.

I should have added, you have to go to ABC to watch it.

This is Peter Jennings favorite sport who happens to throw like a girl. He conspired with the communists and the one worlders to bring it to ABC and inflict this spectacle on millions of blameless Americans.....

Soccer-the globalist sport. It is the favorite sport of the "un third worlders. You're right it is incredibly boring.

LOL! But think about it, after they kick-off in a few minutes, ABC becomes the C-SPAN of sports. No Commercials!

Correction - Billions will tune in on this final game, I read an estimate of 1.5 billion viewers. Also, I really would prefer the soccer haters to identify their favorite sport. Would it be MLB and the fan's favorite, Barry Bonds, or how about the NBA, with Latell Sprewell and Isaha Thomas (forgive the spelling).

Billions is right. I've given up on trying to convince anyone else of the beauty of this sport. The more that kids play the sport, the more fans we will have as they get older. All three of my boys played and they are lifetime fans.
The Game is ON!

I'm not a soccer-hater, but I do find the sport hard to watch. I watched the U.S./Germany game in its entirety that Friday morning a couple of weeks ago and I just couldn't get into it at all. I've watched a few other games and I was similarly bored. It seems the only real chance to score a goal is when they do that "corner kick" in which a player kicks the ball in from a corner and hope it bounces off somebody's head into the goal. Otherwise, 95% of the action occurs in the middle of the field where the ball is basically batted around in the neutral zone. It's similar to watching hockey on TV, except hockey is more exciting because there are fewer players and less space so there are more scoring opportunities. But like soccer, hockey is another sport where most of the action occurs in the neutral zone where players endlessly trade the puck back and forth, jockeying for that rare scoring opportunity.
So what is my favorite sport to watch? Hands down, football. (American football) In this game, anything can happen. The team can be ahead 21-7 with two minutes left in the game and have the ball at the opponents 5 yard line, about to make it into a 28-7 rout. Suddenly the ball is intercepted at the goal line and run 100 yards for a touch down. Suddenly it is 21-14 and a successful onside kick can turn the ball back over at midfield and give the other team a real chance to tie the game. But if you are down 3-1 in soccer with two minutes left, forget about it. Game is over. A two goal lead is often insurmountable in soccer no matter how much time is left in the game.
What I also like about football is that you can watch virtually any game, even between teams you have never seen before, and get into the game quickly. So many things can happen in just one play: You can get a first down, score a touchdown, have the ball intercepted for a touchdown, have the ball fumbled away, etc. The game is so complex and there is so much strategy and planning involved that it is more akin to a military battle than a sport. I think this is why men like this game so much.

This game is a metaphor for what is going on in the world and the shifting of power.
Soccer in a way always refflected which nations were up and which were down. The ONLY exception was that the numero uno nation the US never fared well at the world cup.
This has been a lackluster World Cup with some of the worst teams of recent memory playing. The rise of African and Asian teams is reflective of the shifting of power away from Europe. The hope of Latin America as a rising star is fading fast and Germany represents the last gasp of a dying Europe.
The improved performance of the United States at soccer, on the other hand, represents the decay of the US.
Most people in the world don't know it but the World Cup is fading into irrelevance. It is the beginning of the end for the world sport.
WAR is the only game that is worth watching, participating in and winning in. Soccer is simply a substitute for all the has been nations of the world that can't afford to play the really important game of WAR.

And since Euro nations love to have hollowed out militaries full of gays then soccer fits in great. Euros cannot fight wars or defend themselves anymore and Muslims notice this as they swamp that sissy continent.
I am so glad to live in the USofA.

Soccer is the only sport I know of where before, during and especially after a game people actually die because they are fans of the other team!
The destruction fans cause after one of the games is ludicrous.

Hey I recognize "The Beautiful Game!" I am up watching it. I am on the west coast and it has been a particularly painful month for me.
I'm rooting for Brazil since my team, England is out.

The improved performance of the United States at soccer, on the other hand, represents the decay of the US. Quite a leap. So there are certain sports that, if the US embraces them, will keep us as a world power? Which ones might they be?
To: sirchtruth
The destruction fans cause after one of the games is ludicrous. You're right. Inebriated U.S. fans would never trash buildings, overturn cars and create general mayhem after a football game, for instance. Oh, wait a minute, that has happened here; never mind.
