An Iraqi opponent evokes a US plan for the assassination of Saddam Hussein
Saturday June 29, 2002 - 18h58 GMT
DOHA, June 29 (AFP) - the Iraqi opponent in exile Wafik Samarraï evoked Saturday "the broad outline" of an American plan to assassinate president Saddam Hussein, in a declaration with television Al-Jazira.
According to the former person in charge for the services of Iraqi military information, "in this broad outline, this plan initially consists in gathering information, in particular by the means of a great number of satellites as well as human sources, to follow displacements of president Saddam Hussein".
"If they (Americans) would manage to determine with exactitude the place where it is, they will give the order to the central command of the American forces on which the planes been parked on the basis depend on Incirlik (in the south of Turkey), or (with their forces) at sea the Mediterranean, at sea Rouge or even in the Gulf, of launching apparatuses and missiles to try to assassinate it", Mr. Samarraï added who resides in London since 1997.
Washington Post had recently affirmed that the American president George W Bush had given instructions to the CIA to develop a plan aiming at reversing Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.
This secret plan required by Mr. Bush at the beginning of 2002 with the CIA includes/understands the recourse to the force to reverse the Iraqi president, even to kill it by special units if they are in a situation of self-defence.
"the American plan to carry a fast and direct blow to the Iraqi president is serious, but I do not think that this operation is for soon", Mr. Samarraï added.
"If they fail (to be killed Saddam Hussein), they could carry out raids against objectives" selected in Iraq, added this opponent who affirms being in liaison with the Kurdish opponents of the north of Iraq.
According to him, "there are no currently American troops in the north of Iraq, nor in Jordan".
Jordan contradicted categorically Saturday information of the Lebanese daily newspaper pro-Syrian Have-Safir, according to whom American soldiers and spies would be on his ground to prepare an invasion of Iraq in order to reverse president Saddam Hussein of it.
My lips are sealed, especially about apparatuses. It will never know what hit it.
Elaine : When will you be back?
Striker : I can't tell you that? It's classified.
This leak means we'll have to delay the reversal now. Delayed shifting into reverse can only mean one thing.
This is not good.
