More than 30 African American civic, political and religious leaders said Friday they will campaign to stop the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood from breaking away from Los Angeles, contending that secession would hurt black residents by reducing the clout and tax base of the diminished city that would be left behind.

Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson (D-Culver City) said the anti-secession message will be spread to black voters from churches and union halls. The campaign will also register African Americans to vote so they can be a force in the secession elections Nov. 5, he said.

The lead sentence makes the Valley's point: they're paying taxes that aren't going to their own benefit. Instead, the money is being funneled into other districts. I hope their secession passes.

Actually, this would be a perfect opportunity for the citizens of San Fernando to make this a big taxation issue. They definitely need to stand up and say, "Look, America, these people of Los Angeles are saying they have a right to our money - that it is theirs - and that the can simply vote it to themselves. Can't you all see what is wrong with this?". They need to take this nationwide.

What the Black leaders are overlooking is that if the Valley does split away, then the remaing city would have a much higher percentage of Black residents. Thus though their finacial clout would be diminished, their political strength will be increased.

I seriously doubt if if the city of LA would benefit from this. I mean look at Atlanta.

That first sentence is, I think, enough reason for anyone to support the valley's plan...

Maybe. Maybe not. Perhaps it would turn LA into a cesspool, but it would be their cesspool. Or maybe they'd actually be ok. Good or bad, at least their fate would be in their own hands.

A split Los Angeles would easily do as well as Detroit.

Oh the honkies--

Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
Sound off 3, 4.... Hup 2, 3, 4

They should let them go. If they don't, they might actually end up with a court case to determine the legality of secession. They might not want that.

This is the most serious problem facing America today. Flight of the wage earners to flee high taxes. You now see American Corporations ‘moving’ overseas to reduce taxes. Now we seen citizens trying to ‘move’ out from a high tax environment.

Other methods thanks to technology also allow high wage earners to relocate from high tax areas and still effectively work. Telecommuting allows remote work. This can be used to reduce commuting, or flee high cost areas.

Since the governments of America have chosen to ‘assist’ every person in America, ‘solve’ every problem in America, and also ‘help’ our visitors for the south, we will see increased methods of attempting to reducing taxes on the wage earners of America.

This is a very serious situation for governments since as the tax payers leave, there are a reduced number of wage earners left to support the transfer payments. Such a phoneme only increases the taxes on the wage earners who stay, until the increased tax burden final drives out all wage earners.

Unless we address the issue of ‘assisting’ ‘solving’ and ‘helping’ others with a worker’s hard earned money, we are facing the collapse of governments.

"A hyphenated American is not an American at all.
This is just as true of the man who puts 'Native' before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or French before the hyphen.
Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul.
Our allegiance must be purely to the United States.
We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance."

The Rev. Cecil "Chip" Murray of the First AME Church said, "The drainage of people is the drainage of funds, and the chief victims of drainage are the impoverished."

Impoverished meaning the folk that get money from the folks wanting to get out.

Did I get that right?

This is not as much about secession as it is about the diminishment of the black power structure in SoCal, and the dramatic increase of Hispanic power.

If the Valley breaks away from Los Angeles proper, the Hispanics in charge there (as well as the ones that remain in Los Angeles) will see their power grow exponentially, at expense to the traditional black power structure.

Many people began to point this out several years ago - most blacks in LA didn't believe it. The time has come. Black Los Angeles' power will be much less than that of Hispanic Los Angeles in very short order. Maxine Waters and her cronies need to start counting how many days they have left.

What the Black leaders are overlooking is that if the Valley does split away, then the remaing city would have a much higher percentage of Black residents.

The remaining city would soon be a majority Spanish speaking third world enclave with all business owned by Asians. The blacks that haven't made it out will be third class citizens at the bottom of the welfare food chain.

The blacks that haven't made it out will be third class citizens at the bottom of the welfare food chain.

And that's the real reason that the black power brokers are trying to salvage Los Angeles as we know it. The number of blacks in either city will NOT be in the majority; and as a result, their now miniscule power will be diluted even further, helping to solidify a Hispanic power juggernaut.
