ANN ARBOR, Michigan (AP) - Movie bad guy Steven Berkoff has played a nemesis to stars ranging from Eddie Murphy to Sylvester Stallone.

...Berkoff met his match in U.S. immigration officials and was deported before he could take the stage, apparently for a visa violation.

Berkoff was sent home Tuesday after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service agents at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on allegations that he had violated the stipulations of a previous work visa issued in 1997, Summer Festival Director Evy Warshawski and Berkoff's American agent, Joe Ajlouny, told The Ann Arbor News...

No comment necessary, as long as you realize that to make this even more ironic it occurred in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area.

But, wait. Maybe the INS is smarter than years of their history would indicate. Maybe there's a method to their madness. With enough high-profile stupid cases like this, who will be able to claim they were profiled?

Hopefully, not Sweden. I think they pronounce the "B" like a "J" there.

"He kept telling them, `I'm not a terrorist, I'm an actor!'"

Same thing. He's a Brit, which is just as bad.

I wonder how much time and money his deportation cost. Could it have been much better spent, say, hunting down foreign "students" from "friendly" countries who've overstayed their visa?

Or it will have the opposite affect, Americans will get tired of "decent" people getting deported and scream for "human rights." Frankly, I find this the more likely scenario, given the idiocy of PC.

It did not cost a dime. The Detroit district has only apprehended 585 illegals since 9/11, so they are not too busy.

The airline that flew him here, paid the expense to fly him back. Probably took the Inspectors about one or two hours of their time.

This guy is no different then any other alien that overstayed their visa.
