Dick Gephardt's appalled. Tom Daschle's chagrined. Congress, in general, is at wit's end.
It's time for us to do something, they say. WorldCom. Enron. Global Crossing. Enough.
Here's what I say: not so fast. Before you start policing other peoples' books, police your own.

If we're gonna go after the Insider Traders and Corporate Raiders--which we most certainly should--let's take time to investigate and INDICT the most corrupt criminals of all, the Big Guv'ment Effete Elitists like Terry McAuliffe and Osama bil Clinton!! Criminal activity almost always catches up with the folks in the Corporate World, but almost NEVER in the Government...MUD

On another thread someone mentioned $6 billion in fraud and waste in the department of education.
Yes, they need to clean their own houses first.

When businesses screw up, the company officers go to jail, the employees look for new jobs, the company goes bankrupt, and customers buy from another company.
When government screws up, the politicians go to higher office, the employees move to new jobs within the department, the department gets more money to fix the problem, and taxpayers pay more taxes!!!

Thanks for this post, and the ping.
After 1995, when the Republicans ordered an audit of the books of the House of Representatives, it was impossible to do. The auditor said they were so imcomplete and messed up, it would not be able to perform the task.
No one went to jail. No one was fined. Not a penny was restored.
Where is the media on this 'cover-up' of fraud, deceit, and theft?

The only reason he or any member of Congress is angry at Enron and WorldCom is that it is much harder to get tax money out of corporations than individual citizens.
So if the investors aren't making money it is harder for the gubmit to get its own greedy hands on the dough.
To: Howlin
He's just been told that now he can't spend all that money WorldCom supposedly made.

This is the very last issue the Rats have for this fall's election, every other one has been lost to them. Expect them to bang the hell out of it. And expect Bush to trump them on it, too. Must be looking pretty desperate down at the DNC.
