MANILA, Philippines, Jun 28, 2002 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- A major battle was under way Friday against the al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf group in the southern Philippines, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said.
Arroyo prefaced a major policy speech on the utility sector with a brief statement that troops were going after the group's top two remaining leaders and already had overrun four Abu Sayyaf camps.

The folks on the Continental U.S. (inclusive of the Congress) don't have a clue about the corruption and daily harassment left over from the Marcos Regime...
Not much has changed from the taking of the islands by the Japanese (except their military is "gone"), and the arming by Marcos of loosely managed groups to do his dirty work/bidding.
Elections have been held and the Phillipines have been declared a free nation/state/whatever. Again, what crapola. But who cares?

I have friends of friends from the Phillipines. Funny how they bring their relatives over here for MediCare when they own huge estates and have milions tucked away. Also funny how their people keep coming and coming. Oh, well ....

They're on the verge of wiping out a serious terrorist organization, with ties to Al Qaeda, and you're griping about Marcos, elections and corruption?!?
Your priorities are seriously out of whack.

Their priorities are out of whack. Remember that two people recently died, one an American from my neck of the woods, when they tried to rescue them from Abu Sayaf.

I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make. Remember that one American was also rescued. Would you have preferred that they were just left in the hands of a terrorist org already known for killing hostages? An org that had already broken its pledge to release them after receiving money from the U.S.?
I applaud the work going on down there with the Philippine forces and our special forces. May they quickly and safely succeed in wiping these scumbags off the face of this Earth.

This is great new! These punks have been killing a lot of people and running a rein of terror against Christian missionaries.

In a situation where hostages are held by a group such as this one, the objectives of any recue operation should be--First kill the rebels, Second make sure they are dead, and Third, hope that some of the hostages may have survived the attack.
Not enough attention has been paid to the importance of wiping out the Abu Sayaf forces. If Muslims tied to Al Queada ever got control of a government in the Far East, our War against terrorism would be greatly compromised.
I have the sense that the wiping out propcess is now under way, and I am glad to see it.

Well said. Amen!

Some people aren't happy unless they're miserable.
To: Coop
The point I am trying to make is that complaining about the Marcos family is petty and the seriousness of the situation demands that Abu Sayaff be wiped out.
To: San Jacinto; Coop
Once again, my point is that the war on terror will continue to be tough and there will be people that make sacrifices. Let's not let the Burnham's suffering go unpunished.
To: KC_Conspirator
Thanks for the clarification. We're in full agreement!

May they quickly and safely succeed in wiping these scumbags off the face of this Earth. If they were in America they would be 'protected' from being called scum bags and allowed their right to be completely evil and do harm. (all in the name of freedom........!!!)
We really do need to get back to basics and define where tyranny and oppression begin.
In the Old Testament. God wiped out whole nations because they were so perverted and evil.
