[history]
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said yesterday that al Qaeda and hard-core Taliban fighters are receiving new shipments of equipment to fight American troops and their allies in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The defense chief said his troops recently discovered a fresh shipment of military gear that was "modern stuff." He declined to identify it. "There's still more money and more new things coming in," he said. Mr. Rumsfeld said he has ordered his commanders to stop destroying all the arms they find and to save the best for the emerging Afghan national army.

> "Literally, you can not imagine the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of things armored vehicles and rockets, everything under the sun. Surface-to-air missiles," he said. "There isn't two days that goes by that there isn't another cache discovered someplace of this stuff. It must be from 20 different countries."

But no books for schools, no jobs, no food. The rich Suadi donors have their Islamic priorities straight.

And today, unless the public outcry has changed his plans, we have have FBI director Robert Muller addressing the meeting of the American Muslim Committee ( AMC ). AMC secretary Abdulrahman al Amoudi openly supports Hammas and Hezbollah. AMC's own website urges the nation's 4 million muslims to resist further cooperation with gov't personnel in anti terror investigtions.
Are we really serious about this war ?

No. PC Uber Alles.

The head of a key agency in the "fight against terror" addressing a collborationist society.
Well, the CiC did say this would be a war like no other. The moral clarity of "either you're with us or you're with the terrorists" sounds quite hollow now.
Is the book done ?

The book is 90+% done in the rough.
Here's the other thing I thought was worth noting in this article:
Now, however, Mr. Rumsfeld wants some weapons saved for an Afghan national force being trained by Army Green Berets. "They started blowing it all up rather promptly, and I've stopped them," he said. "And we're starting to triage it and get rid of the stuff that's dangerous and unstable, because a lot of it's very old. I've got them stockpiling the rest of it for the Afghan national army."
Dimes to donuts most of this stuff will be sold out the backdoor right back to the terrorists, we will be chasing our tails, re-confiscating it, or getting shot at with it.
To: Travis McGee
I think it a moot point Travis..... If we didn't give the good troop a dirty recovered AK ect ect......then we'd just be giving them a new M-16 ect ect.
If there gonna sell em out the back door, there gonna sell em out the back door regardless but I believe Rummy is dead set on arming the alledged good guys. If it saves us one dime less to "chase our own tail" as you put it then we win a little time IMHO..........
Stay Safe !

I know you're right, we have to arm the new army with something more than slingshots.
I just hope we keep a copy of the serial numbers, so that we can trace the "dirty" Afghans if it gets sold.

There are even more interesting ways to trace these materials. Heheh. I hope someone is sneaky enough to think of it.
Oh no I've said too much, I haven't said enough...

I'm kinda leery of any we may identify as good guys in that part of the world. After all UBL was our good guy back in 1980. The foundations of the faith may yet bridge the contentions which divide the Northern Alliance factions from the Al Qaida / Taliban.
