Wellstone's Wrong on Vouchers

Commenting on the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that school vouchers were indeed constitutional, Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minn., said that vouchers "are the wrong policy when it comes to educating our children."
Oh really? The fact is that the Court's timing couldn't have been better. It made its ruling just one day after the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that reciting the pledge of allegiance in public schools was unconstitutional because it contains the words "under God," and on the SAME day that the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that commemorative tiles created by Columbine High Scholl families, rescue workers and others related to the massacre could not be displayed because they contained the offensive words "God is love" and "Jesus Wept."
In other words, what Wellstone is so upset about is that the Court's decision means that even poor families may now have a chance to escape the anti-religion, anti-American, leftist-controlled government schools at the same rapid pace that other decent families have fled.
Sen. Wellstone's comments are just the latest reason why he has to be replaced. President Bush will not be able to replace these nutcase federal judges until he has a Republican majority in the senate.

So, you're saying that, not only do we have to continue paying for other people's children's public school educations, but we have to foot the bill for people who put their kids in private schools, too.
I have a better idea: Let's allow parents to pay for their own children's education. If they send them to public school, they pay for it. If they send them to private school, they pay for it. If they cannot afford either, they either homeschool or they shouldn't have children in the first place.

"...educating our children." All Your Children Belong Us.
Children aren't part of a family, they're part of the village, the collective, the kibbutz, the commune, the society. Wellstone is a commie.

Any chance that Wellstone will lose in November?

Everyone paying for their own children's education is the best way, unfortunately those who send their children to private schools or homeschool pay for public schools anyway. I wish I could "opt out" of property taxes since I'm planning on homeschooling my kid.

I paid to put all 4 of my kids thru private school at the same time I paid taxes for public schools. The old double whammy trick........... BTW, if every public school in the nation shut down tomorrow, people interested in educating their children would find a way to do so. Neighborhood groups could pool their money and resources to educate kids. It would be done. Without regard to money, getting gov't out of schools would be a great achievement.

I agree completely. We homeschool our children, too, and our property taxes are astronomical! If we were offered vouchers, we probably would accept them, unless the gov't was only using them as a way to interfere with our decision to homeschool. Unfortunately, vouchers will be given to people who aren't paying school taxes. A double-whammy for the rest of us, indeed.

With State money for private schools will come State regulations, regulations that will ban prayer, regulations that will ban the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance, regulations that will require a "balanced racial makeup" in the classroom - and require admission of pistol-totin' gang-bangers while preventing our own kids from even drawing a
picture of a gun!
Are you SURE this decision is a good one?
Are you really?

Polls say he is tied with Norm right now. That is not good for Welfare, The campaign is not even in high gear yet. All the highly rated talk shows are anti-paul. After the state fair I think Coleman will pull ahead for good.

The Court ruled that vouchers were constitutional because it was a "neutral" transaction ... government gives money to parents, who make a free choice what to do with it. Consequently, government has no right to impose its rules and restrictions on private schools since they are not receiving the money directly from the government.

People who send their kids to public school are no better than the welfare mother who continues to pump out kid after kid at the taxpayer's expense. Why should I have to pay for your kid's education? Let's look at it for what it really is...thievery legitimized by government coercion.
