WASHINGTONSenator John Edwards on Wednesday said a federal appeals court was wrong to declare the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional.
"America is one nation under God," Senator Edwards said. "This ruling is wrong."
A 1954 act of Congress inserted the phrase "under God" after the words "one nation" in the pledge.
The ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that the pledge violates the Constitution's separation of church and state only applies in the nine Western states that make up that San Francisco-based appeals court. It does not apply in North Carolina.
Senator Edwards recites the pledge each morning after the Senate convenes and is led in prayer by the Senate chaplain. Senator Edwards also is a leader of the Senate Prayer Breakfast, a group of current and former senators who meet each Wednesday morning
He predicted that the ruling would be reversed if the case reaches the Supreme Court, where the marshal declares at the opening of each session, "God save the United States and this honorable court."

Just kidding John! Hey? Why all the eye blinking?

"Senator Edwards recites the pledge each morning after the Senate convenes and at lunch before the apertifs; during every meeting with his constituents; before every meeting with his Atheist, Arab, and homosexual contributors; twice at supper- after the soup and before the sherry; between the first and second acts of the opera, or during the credits if he's at a movie or before the obligatory encore if he's at a music performance; at every third traffic light his chauffeur stops at on the way home; before his nightcap; after brushing his teeth; during the 'character development' portions of porno films; when he gets up during the night to relieve himself... So call him and ask if this means he'd vote to impeach those two judges.
"Oh, because Tom Daschle told you you couldn't?"

"God save the United States and this honorable court."I read that "horrible". Should go get my eyes checked. Or my brain.
To: farmfriend
One of the old-time Justices (I forget which one, Brennan perhaps) used to say it should be "God save the United States from this honorable court".

I hate to say it but I'm sure Gore supporters would agree with that. : )

His visual reaction from the flash of ambulance lights has given him the dub "Blinky" Edwards...
