BERLIN (Reuters) - German authorities have gathered information about a possible attack on the annual Love Parade techno music festival next month, a newspaper reported on Tuesday. The mass-circulation Bild daily said police had information that an Albanian Muslim helped smuggle 11 pounds of explosives into the German capital on June 12 for possible use in a car bomb attack on the Love Parade.

The Love Parade brings together as many as one million mostly young fans of electronic dance music to the wide boulevard that connects the once-divided east and west sections of Berlin every summer. It is scheduled to take place for the 14th consecutive year on July 13.

German security officials declined to confirm or deny the report, but said they expected Israeli or U.S. targets to be the prime focus of Osama bin Laden ( news - web sites)'s al Qaeda network, blamed by the Washington for the September 11 attacks on U.S. landmarks.

German officials have been on heightened alert in regard to large public events for months.

French officials canceled an alternative to the Love Parade last September in the immediate aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon ( news - web sites).

Berlin police said there was no thought of canceling Berlin's Love Parade at present.
