June 27, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - President Bush yesterday said, "I meant what I said" that Yasser Arafat must go - and warned America may cut off funds to the Palestinians if he doesn't.
"I meant what I said, that there needs to be change," Bush told reporters at the G8 economic summit in Canada.

The latest claptrap is that the Palestinians have a right to elect their own leader. I agree BUT we have a right to chose if we are going to support them if they do not reform. Through NGOs, the UN and direct aid, we send a lot of money over there.

The $3 billion in annual aid to Israelaccording to the most conservative estimatecompares with about $2 billion for Egypt, $225 million for Jordan, and $35 million for Lebanon. U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) is not earmarked, but it has been running at about $100 million a year.
