In her opening monologue at 3PM today, South Florida Talk Show Host Randi Rhodes ocompared an ugly couch one hates to the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Her soliloquy lasted ten minutes or so. Randi told of how she bought a new house, picked out the best paint, the best tile and then her husband came home with an ugly leather couch she had to live with for years until she had it taken to the dump. That is, she said, how she has felt about listening to the phrase "under God" all her life. She is delighted that the constitution has been reaffirmed.
Rhodes is not a marginal talk show host. She has the first or second highest rated show in Palm Beach County. From her website:
Randi Rhodes on WJNO 1290 is the # 1 choice for talk radio listeners in South Florida. She became the first woman to host a daily talk show on WJNO in 1994. She remains the only woman hosting a daily locally-originated talk show in South Florida.
Randi is provocative, funny, compelling, sarcastic, a liberal oasis in a sea of conservative talk show hosts. Randi has been behind the mike for over seventeen years and has been on the air in Miami, Texas and New York.
Tune in to 1290 WJNO Monday through Friday for Randi's unique perspective on the day's news and issues that matter to you.

I believe she is on until 6PM EDT. She may be on until 7. She rarely has on conservative callers but we can tie up her 800 number.
Ms. Rhodes has stated that she wishes any one would take over her wifely womanly duties. That G.W.Bush is only in it for the money as are all the repubs. Anti American and anti men. Just the type of woman you want to take home to meet mom, or shoot in the head.
They are. I've seen condo critters strutting around wearing Randi Rhodes T-shirts. She is very popular in South Florida. So much so that she does commericials on other shows, including Rush's. Not every business which wants her to do a spot is able to get time on her show.
I don't think so. Randi is playing to the crowd. The few times I can take more than five minutes of her, I've rarely heard a conservative caller. This is Palm Beach County. Her audience thinks Gore won the election. They believe BIG OIL is behind the war on terror. They think Bush and Cheney are sending American troops in harm's way to profit from oil money.
Just tune out and she will get fired again, just like she has been everywhere else she has been on the air.
Better yet, why not call the station and apply for her job at half the price, you can't help but get twice the ratings.
I make a point of listening to the enemy. In her case, I've never been able to take more than 15 minutes. And not more than once a week. But as "EnquiringMind" points out, she does have a following. Ignoring these people does not make them go away. She, the bigots who hang on her words, the station and her advertisers should be made aware what she says is beyond civilized political debate. A conservative who said what she does would be off the air in one day.
