McCain Chums it Up with Gephardt in TV Commercial
The Today Show

Posted on 06/26/2002 4:20:27 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

The Today Show just aired a TV commercial promoting tourism for Washington, DC. Various national leaders appeared, all singing (off key).

Most of the politicians appeared alone, including Denny Hastert and Laura Bush. But McCain appeared with Gephardt, and was very noticeably holding him by the shoulder in a very fraternal manner.

In my mind there's no doubt: McCain was intentionally sending a "subliminable" message about his continuing pal-ing around with the Dems.

I've heard rumors in the past McCain was not really a War hero while he was a POW. This came from some of his fellow Pow's that claim he was treated better than the rest because, his father was some kind of high ranking Military Officer. Even if this is true I never seen him as a person who could be compromised till lately.

This recently, provocative, Demo leaning, attitude, should concern all and send a message that it needs watching. It sends me a signal he is traitor and could very easily turn on others when He doesn't get his own way. He didn't win the presidential nomination so he is now going to turn on the President and other conservatives.

This man is a dirt ball of the worse kind and should be shunned by the rest. He indeed is a traitor.

McCain is thinking that maybe, just maybe, the Democrats would select him to be their candidate. That way, he could achieve his only hope and dream, that of becoming President and nuking Vietnam shortly afterward. (Obviously, this scenario is about as likely as that of Osama Bin Laden appearing on TV - It isn't going to happen.)

Unfortunately for him, his one and only chance to be President was destroyed by George Bush, and he's been undermining the Republican's, and GW, ever since then. (i.e. They should've kicked him out of the party a long time ago.)

I believe McCain is still conservative but this schmoozing with Dumocraps to show the public an image that he can "get along" with the other side is going to come home to ruin him...He'll one day see the error of his ways when it is too late and he is universally looked on by both sides as a politician who doesn't know his head from a hole in the ground.

They ain't your friends Johnnie, they'll eventually eat your head, spit it out, and laugh.

Should the Republicans retake the Senate, I can very easily see him "pulling a Jeffords" in exchange for some plum committee chairmanship.

McCainiac will do what is necessary to stay in the limelight. Is this unusual for a politician? No.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but why isn't McCain back in Arizona surveying the forest fire damage? Sheesh. Even Dubya beat him to the punch.

Nice screen name. I refer to you all the time! LOL. Agreed. I fully expect that when the republicans regain control of the Senate that McCain will pull a Jeffords.

When are the people of Arizona going to get rid of this embarassment and send him packing? He should be a card carrying member the Socialist Democratic Party. The communist brain washed him while he was in custody at the Hanoi Hilton.

After 2002, if the GOP gets control of the senate, McCain would be vice-chair of the Armed Services Committee. He'd be chair after 4 years of GOP control (if term limit rules passed in 1995 are read to limit chairmanships to 6 years total-- without regard to time spent as ranking member) or 2 years of GOP control (if term limit rules passed in 1995 are read to limit chairmanships and/or ranking memberships to 6 years total), and would have two years he could serve as chair of the Commerce Committee if time as chair is only counted.

McCain is on only two major committees. I can't see Sen. Levin giving up his chairmanship of Armed Services to an Independent McCain or Hollings doing so in Commerce. If Harkin is defeated, McCain could be made chair of Agriculture. Otherwise, I don't see where he could go to chair a committee with the Democrats. Only Baucus as chair of Finance or Conrad as Budget chair aren't power-hungry SOBs. The rest of the current chairs of committees worth a damn (Biden, Kennedy, Kerry, Dodd, Byrd, Leahy, Sarbanes, Lieberman, Rockefeller, and Graham) would hate to surrender their chairmanships to anyone-- even if it meant control of the senate.

Regarding McCain switching, it doesn't make much sense.

All great points, GSC... I just wish he'd get over losing to GWB, and put the people's interests ahead of his own. His 'treat' regarding appointments is lower than low.

Actually, I can update my post, since the GOP caucus decided once and for all on what to do about the term-limits rule they adopted. McCain will have 2 more years as chair of the Commerce Committee if the GOP gains back the senate (they decided that GOP senators can serve six years as committee chairman even if they had previously served as long as six years as ranking minority member; but a chairman could not serve thereafter as ranking minority member of the panel). Under a strict interpretation of the old rule, McCain would be looking for power after 2002 becuase he's been either chair or ranking member of Commerce for 6 years.
