June 26, 2002 -- Rosie O'Donnell's magazine yesterday bounced the editor who had supervised the magazine's transformation from McCall's into its new incarnation as Rosie magazine.
The new editor is Susan Toepfer, former No. 2 editor at People and wife of best-selling novelist Lorrenzo Carcaterra. She replaces Cathy Cavender at the helm of Rosie.

"...it probably did not help that Cavender put home entertainment diva Martha Stewart on the cover with Rosie for the June issue..." People who buy Rosie don't have a clue about Martha Stewart's insider trading problems, nor do they care. Look for some other explanation.
Maybe buyers are tired of Rosie being a drama queen with all her guest appearances and her "pity me" posing.

"We spend every Tuesday trying to figure out what is going to sell on the cover...."
They need to figure much, muuuch harder.
Somebody signed Mrs. Fierro up for a subscription to this crap. It goes straight from the mailbox to the garbage can.

In May, with the publication of her best-selling memoir "Find Me," Rosie O'Donnell officially came "out" and admitted that she was involved in a lesbian love relationship. The promotional packaging that included a two pound bag of flour with each memoir was clearly a failure.
My apologies if you are currently eating or drinking...

I USED TO GET MCCALLS, BUT WHEN IT TURNED INTO ROSIE, THAT DID IT FOR ME.-- MAYBE ROSIE HERSELF IS THE PROBLEM, HER FACE SEEMS TO BE ON EVERY COVER

...."
the Oprah magazine headed by Oprah Winfrey is also tanking on the newsstand - although the Hearst people said that is part of their business plan."
Don't tell me....Hearst is getting in line for a government "bail out"?

She replaces Cathy Cavender at the helm of Rosie. On so many levels, that is a place at which one ought not be.

No, like the Oprah magazine, Rosie is on EVERY cover of the magazine, pictured with the "guest star". I've never bought one, I just go through store check-out lines at least once a month and see it. The arrogance of the idea that Rosie must be on each cover is absolutely appalling. (And it's just as bad on Oprah's magazine)

This month's Oprah cover (which faced me in the check-out yesterday) freatures her riding a horse. I just stared at it in bewilderment, as it made no sense.
The entire reason Rosie's sales have plummeted is simple. As the McCall's readership's subscriptions expire, they are not being renewed.

That these two inflated egos always put their own mugs on the cover has to be a major factor in their declining sales. I don't often buy the "women's magazines," but when I do, it's because the cover photo has piqued my interest. That usually requires a delicious-looking food item or the face of an interesting person whose interview I would like to read. All Oprah, or all Rosie, all the time just isn't interesting.

Maybe there's actually a limit on the number of people who identify with a homely overweight obnoxious lesbien?

MAYBE ROSIE HERSELF IS THE PROBLEM, HER FACE SEEMS TO BE ON EVERY COVER I think that big head IS on every cover, but this is hardly the fault of the editor. It's the fault of the owner who bought this magazine and named it after herself as a ego trip.

I just go through store check-out lines at least once a month and see it. The arrogance of the idea that Rosie must be on each cover is absolutely appalling. I try to avoid the normal checkout lines just so I won't see this ALL THE TIME. Some of our stores have put in self-checkout lanes that I much prefer - so far they're not displaying this garbage.
