The national-security disconnect in Congress

At this time in our history, what could be more important than the survival of our country and the protection of its people? You would think that our elected officials would have these concerns uppermost in their minds. Think again.

There seems to be a dangerous disconnect on the part of some of our legislators. We are in danger of imminent attack. Our elected officials tell us on a daily basis that we are vulnerable to weapons of mass destruction. These attacks will not come from ICBMs. They will come from an enemy already within our borders.

Since 9-11, another half-million illegal aliens have entered our country – cutting to the head of the line, flaunting our laws, leeching resources away from legitimate legal immigrants, depressing wages of American workers, committing violent crimes in disproportion to their numbers. How can we honestly expect the FBI and local law enforcement to root out terrorists when the Congress does everything possible to overwhelm these efforts by encouraging the arrival of millions of additional law-breakers – many of whom are not coming here with benign intentions … many from countries and cultures openly supporting terrorism?

This is not the time to be coddling illegal aliens or encouraging more to move here. If anything, illegals should be provided with dis-incentives to come and dis-incentives to stay. But what are Sen. Hatch and Reps. Frank and Davis proposing? Rewards and benefits and amnesties! Are these people living in the real world? Do they care anything at all about our national security and the lives of our people?

It is time for our elected officials to get serious. Dropping thousands of bombs in Afghanistan won't save America. Getting realistic here at home, within our own borders, might. How many more 9-11s will it take for some in the Congress to wake up?

As citizens, it is incumbent upon us to make our voices heard. Write letters to your own representatives in Congress and to these three misguided politicians. E-mails are not read and mail is not opened. FAX your letters to:

Sen. Orrin Hatch:
202-224-9102

Rep. Barney Frank:
202-225-0182

Rep. Tom Davis:
202-225-3071

Illegals should be DEPORTED, instead we reward them.
