[history]
Montana Sen. Max Baucus is emerging as the new darling of Hollywood's glitterati, and his Republican challenger says that shows the incumbent is out of touch with the state's conservative voters.
Stars like Barbra Streisand, Michael Douglas and Rob Reiner have donated to the campaign of Mr. Baucus, a four-term Democrat up for re-election in Montana, a state where George W. Bush won 58 percent of the vote in 2000.

Mike's woefully underfunded, but I hope to see that change as his poll numbers improve (which I expect them to do).

Baucus is not only in the pockets of the looney Hollywood left, he's a fully owned subsidiary of the enviro-whacks.
They have been preventing the exploitation of the huge coalbed methane reserves in the Powder River Basin, thereby depriving the people of Montana (who have the lowest per capita income in the US) of a large source of needed revenue that would raise the standard of living for all Montanans. (And that doesn't even begin to address the huge issue of how the Daschle Dems' and the Greens' obstruction of our exploiting our own resources is hurting our national security.)
When you look at the opportunities across the country to pick off Senate seats, this one quickly shines out as one of our best...the universe of voters is so small, we get a lot bigger bang for our bucks.
IMO, Mike Taylor is running a very smart campaign by running against the Daschle Dems...Daschle is VERY unpopular right now with Montana voters.

i think max needs to spend some time on the Missouri river, get back in touch with his roots....Max Baucus' family owns the largest sheep farming operation in Montana - the Sieben Ranch. Need I say more?
Mike Taylor is a great guy and an effective state legislator. Marc Racicot was here stumping for him over the weekend. I don't think he's got the bucks to beat Max, but its not for lack of trying.
AX MAX!

Wouldn't you trust a guy that looks like this?

Teddy Roosevelt is reborn! ;-)
Good, we could use some new Roughriders...

Amen! Mike got his start as a barber and then became a rancher. Baucus is a Stanford-trained lawyer who has been in politics for 30 years.

You're right...we need to get the grassroot fundraising machine in motion as we have done for about 6 of the other vulnerable D Senators representing Bush states...Canahan, Johnson, Cleland, Wellstone, Harkin and Landrau. How does Taylor look even though Hollywood is pouring in the money? Thanks for the headsup.

There are probably plenty of good contrasts you can make, but this ain't one of 'em. In the picture you posted, the challenger looks like a big fat goof.

Do you have any further scoop on the Taylor/BuckUS race? Do you mean the Taylor/Baucus U.S. Senate race?

They have been preventing the exploitation of the huge coalbed methane reserves in the Powder River Basin, thereby depriving the people of Montana (who have the lowest per capita income in the US) of a large source of needed revenue that would raise the standard of living for all MontanansIMHO, this will bring Taylor some sorely needed funding. Preliminary contacts indicate fairly solid oil and gas industry support for Taylor.
In addition to O&G operators, Taylor should be able to get much support from timber, mining and ranching businesses and individuals. Current Sierra Club support for Baucus should be exploited as taking money from liberal "special interest" group partially responsible for the descruction of 2,500,000 acres of pristine, unlogged, roadless tracts of firestorm material, so far, in this year alone. That's right, 2.5 million acres of wildlife habitat needlessly destroyed due to mindless enviro policies.
How much is Club Sierra giving Baucus?
