Witness: "We drew straws" to determine sheriff's killer

Patrick Cuffy says they drew straws to decide who would be the shooter. A star witness in the Sidney Dorsey murder trial admits he helped three other men kill Sheriff-Elect Derwin Brown.
Patrick Cuffy barely made eye contact with Sidney Dorsey, turning toward the jury instead. Getting on the witness stand was also tough for Dorsey's campaign manager, Clarence Moseley. Moseley kept important information bottled up inside until Derwin Brown was killed.
Patrick Cuffy testifies against a man he called a father figure. "He handed me a paper that was folded. When I opened it, it said 'Kill Derwin Brown.'"
Cuffy says he asked Sidney Dorsey why. "He said that Derwin was gonna kill him.... "
"I said 'are you sure?' He said, 'absolutely.'"
Cuffy told Dorsey he couldn't handle killing Brown, so Dorsey suggested to get more people.
"Did Melvin Walker agree to participate?" asked the prosecutor.
"Yes, sir."
"Was he involved in the murder?"
" Yes, Sir."
"Was David Ramsey involved in the murder?"
"Yes, sir."
"Was Paul Skyers involved in the murder?
"Yes, sir?"
"Were you, Mr. Cuffy, were you involved in the murder?"
"Yes, sir."
The four men pulled straws to decide who would be the shooter.
Prosecution: "Who was selected?"
Cuffy: "M.D. Walker. His job was to shoot and kill Derwin Brown."
Prosecution: "Did Melvin Walker, in fact, shoot and kill Derwin Brown?"
"Yes, sir."
Dorsey's campaign manager and close friend, Clarence Moseley, also took the stand. "I am very troubled by my roll in this affair because of my past relationship with him. But my sense of morality and right, superceded those feelings."
Clarence Moseley and Dorsey had a one-on-one conversation after he lost the run-off election. "He made the statement, words to the effect that Derwin Brown would never assume office of Sheriff. There would be a special election."
Moseley said he was so distraught about the conversation with Dorsey. He finally told his pastor and Thomas Brown, the present DeKalb County Sheriff.
Patrick Cuffy mentioned a hit list during his testimony, and some of the names on it were: S aresa Beasley-Simmons, Dorsey's mistress, and DeKalb County District Attorney and Albany native J. Tom Morgan.
Clarence Moseley mentioned J. Tom Morgan in his testimony. He said Dorsey told him, Morgan had nothing he can use to indict him.
The trial will continue Wednesday morning.
They should draw straws to decide which member of the Sheriff's family will get to carry out the execution...I would suggest death by hot poker.
It would be very appropriate. When a officer of the law does a crime of this magnitude, it deserves punishment beyond what an ordinary citizen would get for murder.
I think a public hanging would be the best approach.
Of course, for a punishment worse than death, Dorsey could be given live in prison except for 7-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. on weekdays when he would be forced to drive in Atlanta rush hour traffic. In a stick shift. With no air conditioning.
