A note to the people who read this thread because they hope and pray that Elizabeth will be returned to her family and who wish to stay up to date with the facts in the case. Please do not let yourself get sucked into a heavy discussion or argument from someone who wishes to come in to this thread and makes a post that will disrupt this thread. The best thing to do it not to bring attention to these post or reply to them.

There's plenty of missing children of all colors and classes. This selection of one couple is misleading.

IMO the reasons there's more interest in Smart are:

Wealth (no movies about poor kidnapped kids, ya know)

Media savvy

Home invasion circumstance

Blonde.

Other reason it stays in the news are active hunts, nationwide, for suspects, knowledge of suspects, sex, and other mysterious elements.

I don't wholly discount the color angle, but it's overrated to the other facts IMO. Give that family some money and a home invasion scenario, they would be plenty known.

Ricci owns all 3 cars (that was something new I learned today) but he did not own any when he started to work for the Smart Family. Also they have not found a handgun in Ricci's cars or his home. But that does not mean much... if he used it, he would have dumped it and he had time to get rid of it since the police first visited him on June 6th. The time frame the FBI is interested in May 31 through June 8th is because they feel who did this planned it out and would have been in the area of the home a few days before and a few days after checking things out.

He may be a piece of the puzzle all right, but I'm afraid with a guy like this, a lie-detector failure may not mean much, as he surely has much to hide, and is in a bonafide habit of lying and evading (much like our last POTUS).

Let me run this by you and whoever else..Honestly, I'm not convinced that this Ricci guy did this..There's too many things that don't add up...and, am aware how different law authorities operate, and have seen many times how they pin raps on someone who's not involved just because they've been in legal trouble before...I have a problem when I hear the term "circumstantial evidence" being used for arrests..
I think there's lots of things going on, and they've had this guy in custody for over a wk already, and haven't officially arrested him. I think due to the fact that he stole things from there before, probably lied on the lie detector test about this due to his parole violations,etc., he probably felt he was in deep doodah anyway, and thus knows the ropes that they MUST prove it anyway, and this is why they haven't officially charged him as yet..And, since he had the car, never transferred it to his name etc., they think he's a prime candidate, and he might be innocent of this crime..Who knows??

Makes you wonder why we call them "correctional facilities." If we kept them occupied turning boulders into gravel for roads, and didn't allow them to be animals in the zoo, there would be a chance that some of them would actually be "corrected."

Who knows? We are given all the facts (for good reasons) but like to theorize. Keeping them in order might be a problem. For example, here's a thread that said the guy was accused, but then let back into the home (because he was innocent?)

If he's the one, it reminds me of the Polly Klass case. Cops, naturally, aimed at the "usual suspects" family, friends, etc. Turns out it was some perpetual criminal creep that saw her once.

So many facts, as tailored in the release, would seem "insinuating." Like him watching her play the harp. I mean, who wouldn't? It's an uncommon sight and she's good.

Personally, I feel the investigation is going right.

my thoughts on Ricci are about the same as Bella and Bridget.....

they have not found anything on him on in his home to warrent him being the chief suspect....the fbi guy did say that they are looking at others as well.

one question I have is this....he admitted to burglary of the Smart's house....was that back when he was the handyman when he and the other six contractors all got fired on the same day,,,or is this burglary sometime after?

I come back to the question of why would a would be burglar wear white clothes and a cap to to rob a house....what vehicle would he drive?...certainly he Ricci would know that the jeep would be recognized....and how did he get Elizabeth out of there...the dogs sniffed to the curb and that's all....did he have the gun on her, open the door , close the door ,go around to the other side and get in, and Liz just sat there?...don't you think that the perp would at least worry that the victim would try to run....

so did he have an accomplice....

and if it turns out that it was ricci,,,wasn't it smart of him to cut the screen....you know, he probably had a key to that house, and cut the screen to get the focus off of him

Well Mr. Detective I was out robbing houses so there is no way it was me. Just check with the Jones on Jones St and ask them if their house was robbed on the morning of June 5th, 2002. LOL...

Personally, I feel the investigation is going right.

We're all entitled to our opinions..however, with each passing day, Elizabeth is NOT at home, nor do they have any idea where she is. Is obvious she's not on vacation or at a friends.

Bill Cosby is still black last time I checked and his son's death got a lot of press. All things being equal and the black family had money or could articulate to the press, they would get the coverage. Think not? What if this were Jesse Jackson's little girl?

Cosby was a celeb, that's true. But my point was, this is just more evidence of the Bias that Goldberg's book was so deft in pointing out.

There is currently at least one little girl missing here in Houston. She's hispanic. Know what? I can't even remember her name, because aside from a few stories in the paper, it has gone entirely overlooked.

Also, regarding Tawana Brawley: If a photograph of Alexis showed up at a TV station, showing a man dressed in Klan robes standing beside the bound and gagged little girl, what do you think would happen?

Obviously you had to be there to tell if the "watching" really seemed inappropriate. Frankly, I think any heterosexual male would like to watch Elizabeth, playing the harp or doing anything. That doesn't mean they'd be fantasizing about bedding her down or plotting to kidnap her. Large audiences of all sorts of people liked to watch Elizabeth playing the harp -- she's a beautiful girl and accomplished harpist. If her parents had known about Ricci's history, I'm sure they wouldn't have let him in the house at all, even if he never gave Elizabeth a second glance.
