Do you remember the 2nd week or so of Elizabeth's abduction when the police mentioned that that they thought perhaps Elizabeth had been stalked by her abductor? They said there were signs of that, the Smarts also mentioned something like that. I wonder if that is why the SLPD is trying to nail down Ricci from May 31 to June 8 (even though Elizabeth was taken June 5.) Just a thought.

Unfortunately this is a problem with which we've been wrestling as a society since it began to break down (morally) in the 1960s.

That is, we have failed to take into account the increase in violent sociopathic behavior among us, primarily stemming from the destruction of the traditional family. So, we keep giving these creeps second--even third--chances, until finally they rape, kill or maim someone so that we can put them away for a long time (or execute them).

Most violent crime--the vast majority--is committed by someone who has a criminal record of less serious, but still serious crimes.

And we wipe the slate clean when kids turn 21, pretending that they aren't still the cold-blooded, vicious monsters they have always been.

On the local news last night, the parents of Ricci did mention that the police had been out there at the trailer house digging. His mother seemed upset because the police had dug up the steps leading into the trailer house.

I was watching MSNBC this morning as I was getting ready for work. They were interviewing a former FBI profiler, she said that while Ricci doesn't appear to have any child molestation/rape/stalking charges in his background, it doesn't mean that he doesn't have the problem. He just may not have been caught. Plus, sex crimes can be committed at any time, Ricci could have just started with that type of thing. She did emphasize that Ricci doesn't seem to have a problem, but didn't rule it out either.

If I was the mother of someone with a track record like Ricci's, I'd be worrying about much bigger things than my front steps being dug up. She should be glad they didn't haul the whole trailer off to an FBI lab.

I seem to recall a famous kidnap case back in the 70s, where they stashed the victim--a wealthy young woman, maybe a teenager, as I recall--in a specially-built underground "shelter", actually a coffin with a breathing tube going to the surface, and a way to put food and water down into it.

Somehow, the perps got picked up on an unrelated matter, and by the time the cops finally got around to getting some answers out of them, and found the hiding place, the girls was dead, dehydrated and starved to death.

Ricci's parents were unbelievable (I believe is was his step-father and mother the reporters talked to.) They say he is a good, gentle person, who didn't abduct Elizabeth, and that she (the mom) hadn't ever seen Ricci be mean to anyone. Someone snorted audibly on camera at that remark, and she hastily amended it to that Ricci had never done anything mean to anyone in her presence. Oh, OK.

How are the SLCDP so certain of the hat and clothing types, down to the brand in one report?? If MK saw the hat in such detail, why not the face, at least to tell whether there was a mustache?? And the hat, as noted, is not exactly SWAT gear. Wonder if some of the clothing was picked up in the house, which is why it's so familiar to MK......
