Jonathan Clark's Weekly Rant June 24, 2002
Worth The Cost Someone once said "If you can be bought at any price, you will be". The author of this quote escapes me, but he or she could have just as well been watching our president since January of this year. Before I go any further, let me make one thing clear. I have supported George W. Bush since the primaries. Until the beginning of this year, I had gained more respect for the man with every passing day. Now, it is a rare occasion that I can say I follow his 'strategory'. I must say that I have been hesitant to critisize Bush because of my repsect for him, but I can't understand what he is doing. He continues to push for permanent removal of the estate tax and the marriage penalty, but they die in the senate at the foot of Tom Daschle. So, in that respect I can not say we would have been better off with Al Gore. But do we really need to give the democrats everything just to win back the senate in the fall?
Big Government Campaign Finance Reform, the increase in government spending, his wishy-washy approach towards Isreal, all have dissapointed conservatives like myself. Yet, his poll numbers stay way above 70% and he continues to stymie the democrats criticism by giving them just enough to take their issues out of play. Now, I was born at night but I wasn't born last night. I understand that the main ploitical goal of this president right now is to keep the house and regain control of the senate. But at what cost? How much bigger should we allow the federal government to grow?
The new 'Homeland Security' agency will increase the size of government. All new cabinet level agencies have. And, it will never go away. That means more of our money staying in Washington. Didn't he say something in his campaign about the American people can spend their money better than Washington could? Do we really need this new expansnion or could it be handled just as well by a re-organization by the Department of Defense? You remember the Department of Defense, don't you? It's that other cabinet level agency that is already tasked with the job of defending our homeland.
Constitutional Crisis? The last time the Writ of Habeas Corpus was suspended, it was during a time of unrest sometimes referred to as the Civil War. No matter what you think of Jose Paddila, the so called 'dirty bomber', he is an American citizen and he has rights protected under the constitution. He has the right to know what he is being charged with, the right to a trial and the right to fair representation. These are not rights that are protected when it suits us, or when it's convenient. These rights and our Constitution, make us different from scum like Padilla, John Lindh Walker and bin Laden. There has always been scarifices made during time of war. From rationing of goods to the linits on our freedom, Americans have been willing to sacrifice for the war effort. But when the government is allowed to hold citizens indefinetly, without formally charging them, we need to question why. George W. Bush is a better man than this.
And we deserve better that this from a man like George W. Bush.
Sermons over, pass the plate.

Yes they can win back the Senate. But they can't uphold the constitution. They're Twenty-first century politicians -- leftovers cut from the same ol', same ol' Twentieth Century politicians mold.

Neither party is about to restore the Constitution. The Republicans may regain control of the Senate, but the odds are they will all fly around the Capitol under their own power before they will restore the Constitutional Republic. Both parties are made up almost entirely of Statists, they only differ on the degree of Statism they propose.

Has the following been reversed? If so do you have a link to it?

They will not win the Senate back, at least not in 2002. But, they will never uphold the Constitution until we have RINOs like George Bush on top.

yes and no.
Yes, they can win back the senate, no, they apparently could care less about the constitution.
The republican party has been highjacked by imposters. Imposters that have rejected our forefathers warnings, and have embraced democracy as "the only righteous form of government". They lie and tell the world that democracy is the answer. They lie when they call themselves republicans, or they dont know the meaning of the word, but no one cares.,
our forefathers never wanted a democracy,

It might win back the Senate, but I doubt very much if they will uphold the Constitution.
