Cardinal George Acts, Black Chicago Responds

Some say priest gets just treatment; others claim racism and say priest had been marked for years.

CHICAGO - On Sunday, Cardinal Francis George of the Chicago Archdiocese announced that eight Chicago area priests would be withdrawn from their ministry duties. One name on the list is that of 54-year-old John Calicott of Holy Angels church in Chicago.

In 1976, Calicott was accused by two 15-year-old boys of engaging in sexual misconduct. Cardinal Joseph Bernardin reinstated him in 1995, a year and a half after the allegations came to light, and, after he had admitted to the improper conduct, and had undergone extensive counseling and therapy.

"I'm hurting inside right now. I am very depressed. How can the church do this?" said Calicott. "I'm struggling to see how a zero tolerance policy is very Christian."

Calicott's supporters agree.

On Monday morning, talk radio African-Americans began voicing their opposition to the church's decision to remove Calicott. Morning Host for WVON and ACLU Regional Vice-President Cliff Kelly opened up the topic for discussion. more at www.illinoisleader.com

Well hey, right now I, every other Catholic, and the entire Church are "hurting inside right now. [We are] very depressed. How can [these priests] do this?"
"[We are] struggling to see how [abusing kids] is [even remotely] Christian."

I am struggling to prevent myself from bashing you over the head with a hammer for molesting 15-year-old boys. Not Christian? Too bad. Get out. Stay out.

Over the weekend, a local Catholic priest was complaining that he didn't really molest anyone, he just put his hands on their butt, not on their genitals. Very Clintonesque, and I have no doubt whatsoever that this priest voted for Clinton. .

Maybe the African American Catholics are hoping that if he stays in, he'll get shot - like the African American child molester priest in Baltimore who was shot by his African American victim.

Gimme a break. The guy's race doesn't matter. He's a traitor to his Church, his people (of all races), and his Lord. Get him out of there.

It's more Christian than endangering more teenage boys from your homosexual molestation, Mr. Calicott.

The fact that he and his friends are whining so much shows their lack of repentance. It's a one-way ticket down, Calicott.
