St. Louis city officials praised a federal grant Sunday that will let them hire nearly 50 new police officers.

While they held their news conference touting the good news, the federal government's newest batch of statistics to be released today will show that the number of major crimes overall increased nationwide last year for the first time in about a decade.

Police Chief Joe Mokwa said his department's efforts had helped lead to a drop in the number of murders the first six months of this year, compared with the same time last year.

I still wouldn't live in St. Louis proper. I doubt if I would agree to live anywhere inside 270.

A very large percentage of the murders in St. Louis are gang/drug related shootings...
That won't stop until the bangers all off each other.

My guess is that Ms. Carnahan and Mr. Gephardt wouldn't either.
