House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert gave no indication yesterday whether Congress would provide the $200 million bailout Amtrak says it needs to operate beyond midweek and said some railroad routes should shut down.
He said Amtrak's management must correct what he called money-losing policies before turning to Congress whenever the railroad runs out of cash

What are Amtrak's problems? Is it like USPS with retirement liabilities up the kazoo? Or is it bad deals for the rail rights of way? How can they be that bad?

Amtrak is another giant sucking sound like the Postal Service.What the politicans dont steal they give away to their favorite charity in the form of a subsidy!
