Palestinians develop anti tank missile

TEL AVIV — Israel says the Palestinian Authority has developed a new anti-tank missile.

Israeli military officers said the missile is termed Al Bana and was first fired three weeks ago toward an Israeli tank. The missile was said to have missed its target.

"We don't know the range of the missile," a senior officer said. "The missile that was fired traveled only a few meters."

The Al Bana is said to have been produced in Palestinian weapons factories in the Gaza Strip. The officers said the PA has production capability, but it is not clear whether it has decided to launch serial production of the missile.

"Until now, it [missile] has not proven to be effective," Brig. Gen. Yisrael Ziv, the commander of Israeli forces in Gaza, said. "The production capacity of this new anti-tank missile is a new development."

The PA and its Islamic allies have so far produced several models of mortars as well as the Kassam-class short-range rocket. Israeli officers said that since the start of the Israeli-Palestinian war in September 2000 the Palestinians have sought to develop a weapon to stop Israeli tanks and armored vehicles.

Ziv said the Palestinians are also seeking to develop an anti-aircraft weapon. The brigadier said the goal is to down Israeli attack helicopters.

"They are developing this capability," Ziv said. "We don't know of any concrete attempt to use this."

You laugh but do you know how difficult it is to launch an anti-tank missile with a sling normally used for rocks. A few meters is quite impressive.

No, the palestinian's legs just collapse under the weight of the explosives and they get no movement at all.

Hahaha...I think the "facetious" tag was implied. Personally, I thought their antitank weapons system (and the antiaircraft system, for that matter) involved a bomb-belted volunteer and an Acme catapult.

LOL!

God help the Israelis if they start rolling out trebuchets loaded with 2 or 3 bomb-belted "martyrs."

The Palestinians could not develop their way out of a wet paper sack.

Old Soviet and Chinese RPGs don't have the desired effect anymore, and if they did acquire some effective anti-tank weapons, look for the Israelis to bring out the nasty stuff.

Pals don't want peace. They want mucho weaponry just like any other MusloManiac nation and any other 3rd world nation.

3rd worlders fail in nation building, feeding their people and providing employment, but always succeed in acquiring weapons. You can never separate Islam from the sword.

The PLO produces a very credible copy of the RPG-7D antitank launcher. What they lack is the ability to manufacture the OG-7 antitank rocket or its antitank shaped charge werhead, which they instead receive from foreign sources.
