One of my wife's girlfriends lives in Show-Low. That is until she got out this morning. We just got word that she is OK.

Still no word on my Show Low resident sister and her husband. The entire family's now trying to get in touch with them, so far with no luck.
I'm not optimistic. They would have contacted us if they could have, days ago. I hope their home and property is all they lost.

Just heard on Channel 5 (CBS affiliate) that it's official, the two fires have merged. Keep praying that the winds calm down and the firefighters and residents stay safe...

This is going to be one bad summer. California is going to make Colorado and Arizona look like kid's play when it is over. I pray for the folks out there in Arizona right now, and fear when it is our turn.
Right now in LA for example, we are about to end the rain season 10% below the all time record for rain totals. That is staggering. 10% below normal... so what.. 10% lower than ever, when you think about it over 150 year cycle is mathematically shocking.
President Bush might need to get pro-active federally and declare the west a disaster zone before hand, and get federal funds, fire equipment, etc moved out before things get worse. They will get worse.

Strela. I hope you hear from your family soon. Maybe they're on the road moving out.

Channel 5 just reported that a new fire has started near Tucson. DL, have you heard anything?

Thanks very much for the link to the Pinetop Chamber - they have updated the latest news - it's very informative. Such an unbelievable situation!

Thanks, UF. But, she would have taken her cell phone with her and there's been nothing but quick busy signals all day when that number and their home number is called.
I suspect they've been burned out. I'm checking back with the Red Cross this afternoon.

and there's been nothing but quick busy signals all day when that number and their home number is called. Strela, on one of the links on this thread, or the other one, I saw something about the phone lines, cells included....how you were NOT supposed to use them as they're really really REALLY tied up now. We're praying for your family. Hang in there, and don't give up hope.

That link to the local Chamber is
here. It was on the other thread.

I was raised in California and came close to losing my property in the Tehama County Pine Creek fire in 1990.
This is so frustrating and horrifying; we've gotten more than enough rain in the Midwest. I wish we could ship these storms back Southwest.

Thanks for the link. But, the part of the page where you can leave requests for missing family members is 404-compliant. Probably overloaded (smirk).

Quick busy signals are usualy a sign of too many people trying to place a call. (circuts are busy).
It is very hard to call to or from that area right now.

I just pinged you to another thread.

Please send me the info - I am a Ham radio operator and we have been monitoring (repeater links from Vegas into the Sho Low area) the situation. We have did have full contact until yesterday afternoon. Trust me, just as soon as the operators down there can get back on the air, they will. And they will have their act together to handle inquires such as yours.
Be glad to help.
