Malaysia's longtime Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad announced on Saturday that he was stepping down from all positions in the government and ruling party.

The news was greeted with disbelief and chants of “Mahathir! Mahathir!” at the annual congress of the ruling United Malays National Organization, where he was giving his closing speech. “I wish to announce I am resigning from UMNO and all positions in the National Front,” Mahathir told the delegates, his voice choked with emotion.

They must struggle hard to improve their lot by increasing their capability to devise, produce and use sophisticated weapons for their defence and for their honour.

My father-in-law, here visiting his grandchildren with his wife, is one of Mahathir's advisors, and a long time friend of Mahathir. I have met the PM and his wife socially at his home, and have met some of the cabinet, who are family friends, as well as some MPs, other leaders.

Mahathir is the George Washington of Malaysia, and a good man. In this country he would be to the right of Reagan, about whom he had a high opinion. I could relate a ton about the goings on down there, not to mention that bloke Anwar as well, the dude the busted, the inside stuff you never see in the press, but I don't have the time tonight. Going out.

In a few weeks I will be teaching the college son of one of Mahathir's cabinet ministers to shoot, the big iron, .45 colt single action, (Ruger Black Hawk), and .22 rifle. His mom's the youngest minister in the cabinet.

I am a rifle club member and NRA, too, as is my Malaysian wife. My wife is a Republican-conservative type, as are most Malaysians here.

If a 'moderate' muslim thinks like that, what does it tell you about Islam? A religion of peace? It's the same Islam with the same evil objective - only the timing to achieve that objective is different. The jihadists want to kill the infidels NOW for the glory of Islam eventhough they are technologically inferior still; the other 'moderates' want to gradually develop their capability, even with the help of the infidels, and once they think they are ready, they will pounce on the enemy - for the honor of Islam. That's what 'moderate' Arab countries like Egypt, S.Arabia, Syria are doing anyway - spending billions to modernise and acquire western arms and military know-how. So don't anyone be deceived by clever muslims like Mahathir. His anti-terrorism credentials are as false as they come. It's mainly a convenient platform to fight his Islamic political opponents at home.

Actually the Islam of Southeast Asia is not the Arabic Islam with its extremism and hate. Southeast Asia was mostly ruled by Hindu and Buddhist Empires from India before Islam came. Islam was brought over by Indian Islamic traders which version is basically the romanticized and exotic Sindbad-type Islamic lifestyles. This Islam is blended with the Hindu, Buddhist, and Animist beliefs to be quite tolerant and free thinking. The extremists then were only a few Arab traders who settled in certain areas. Unfortunately, now pockets of stupidity are on the arise in Malaysia and Indonesia where losers are embracing the Arabic nonsense of destruction when they have very little to do with Arab culture. Mahatir has recognized it and kept it in check to an extent.
