Back in the early 90s, Mitsubishi was ready to roll out a new line of touch screen monitors. The briliant Japanese marketing staff knew that they would need something culturely appropriate to sell them in America.

They licensed the 'Woody Woodpecker' character and paid all the appropriate fees, signed all the agreement. The ads were all placed, the commercials filmed and the pamphlets printed.

The day before the rollout an American woman ex-pat working in accounting wandered through the marketing department. All of the materials, posters, etc. used the same tag line...
