[history]
June 22, 2002 -- Music legend Charlie Daniels dropped out of a Fourth of July TV special on public television after organizers refused to let him perform a song paying tribute to the victims of Sept. 11.
At issue is a tune called "The Last Fallen Hero," which Daniels, 65, has been performing in concerts since he wrote it last winter.

Yeah.... gosh we mustn't offend Mohammed Atta. PBS like ABC thinks country music is too patriotic and too rough edged for our enemies. And they wonder why its popular with the public. Go figure.

FOX News had Daniels on yesterday where he discussed this issue and performed his song "The Last Fallen Hero."

It's amazing that the TV people ABC, PBS, or whatever invite country music artists and think that they won't sing patriotic songs. Most of the country music shows I've attended over the years have always had a patriotic song.
I guess the only real "patriots" are singers who would prefer to b - - ch about the United States, or situational ones like Bruce Springsteen

I think we should celebrate our independence on July 4th. We should celebrate John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington. We should celebrate the cause of human liberty.
(Donning flame suit) I can understand CD being disappointed. Or--the cynic in me awakens--maybe this is a publicity stunt for him. It got him on H:C. It got him on this forum. Maybe it sells some records for him. I personally have had enough memorializing of 9-11. It's not as if there is some void that only CD can fill. The last 9 months have been a non-stop remembrance of 9-11. These "never forget" stickers are the most inconceivable sentiment I can imagine. Forget? Are you kidding me? But is that what July 4th is supposed to be about?
IMO, July 4th is a time to remember our nation's birth. It is a time to remember why we are a nation. On July 4th, we celebrate our 226th birthday as a Union. Over that time we have suffered numerous attacks from many different foes. Shall we demand a place for our song about each one? Enough already. Peace through strength, not through endless incessant memorializing.

"The day will be the most memorable in the history of America. I am apt to believe it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival... It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward for ever more."
-- John Adams, July 3, 1776

Lemme get this straight...the music channels show video of gangstas praising the glory of beating the crap out of women; the Dixie Chicks get tv time and dime cuz they sing a song about beating, or killing, a boyfriend; ABC bleeps the name Jesus in a prayer...and PBS won't let Charlie kick a little terrorist ass.
Amerika, whatta country.
That ain't the way things oughtta be.

Charlie Daniels is a solid conservative Christian and an embodiment of what it means to be a patriot. PBS is full of communists.

Peter Jennings should have no business being part of any patriotic celebration for his leftism.

That is just a wonderful example of how FOX remains one of the few decent news sources for real Americans

I'd agree with you once the communists and Muslims have been defeated. Till then we are at war and no American should forget what they want to do to us.
