All of this under a so-called conservative administration. It's earned a lot of names, but 'conservative' isn't one of them.
Understand yet you Republicans---you've been had!!!
Actually, I think they like it.
I'll come right out and say I'm not going to submit to this. I'll never carry a National ID card, nor any card with a chip in it, and I'm not giving up any biometric info, period.
There have been a lot of infringements of liberty, and though I've complained, I've put up with them. There must be a line in the sand where we say, "This far, and not one bit further". To me, this is that line.

The mark of the beast is here
You are exactly correct.
Husband is an OTR truck driver. Not 6 months ago, he was informed at a company meeting that our state was planning to begin implementing the above mentioned 'microchips' in all CDLs' (Commercial Drivers' License) issued beginning within a couple of years. The 'new' license was not going to be an option from the way it was presented.
No License=no job=no way to support ones family. The number of the beast...
Revelation 13:11-18 tells exactly what is to come.

Paranoia?
Well, if this weren't actually a real house bill, that might be the case. But it's real. It's called HR 4633, the "Driver's License Modernization Act of 2002." Go look at thomas.gov if you like.
People who fear unreal dangers are paranoid.
People who fear real dangers are concerned.
People who ignore real dangers are naïve.
So which are you?

"A State shall obtain biometric data for the identification of each individual to whom the State issues a new or renewed driver's license or identification card and shall maintain such data." Just what kind of biometric data "shall" the state obtain? "Biometric data obtained by a State under this paragraph shall be of a type that can be matched to the license or card holder only with the express cooperation of the license or card holder." Can you say "Gattaca"?
"There is no gene for the human spirit."

I have friends who are Coptics (Eastern Right Orthodox Christians) in Egypt, they now live in the States; they can give you first hand info regarding smart cards.
In Egypt, they put the religion of the holder on the card and since Egypt is 99% Muslim, one can only imagine the prejudice exhibited against these poor Coptics.
Many are marked for death while traveling to Church, bias from all governmental agencies, bias on the job, if one is in business they experience a drop off of customers, and so on.
We can not allow the USA to do this. First it will be your religion, then whether or not you are a gun owner, if one is pro life, etc. The amount of information on these cards is endless..

The amount of information on these cards is endless. It is only limited by the amount of data one can physically fit on a chip, or on countless databases to be referenced by ID#/SSN which is as you say, endless.
No legal restrictions will limit the amount of data to be accessed by your "drivers license".
And they have the nerve to not call it a NATIONAL ID.

I agree steve...THE MARK OF THE BEAST!!! Naw, the mark of the beast has got to be in your very forehead or in your hand (Rev 14:9), not your billfold.
Details, details! Is this the mark of the first or fourth beast?
Well, this tears it! The sky is falling! We must run and tell the king!

Thank you. I hope you'll join me.
A mere few outraged citizens will pose no threat to this National ID card. It will take the stubborn refusal of many millions of us to make any significant difference.
Once this system is entrenched, it will be literally impossible to remove. We must oppose it now, or never.
