I've been wondering about that as well. There seems to be a lot of details about his clothing, dark hair, etc. considering that she was in a dark room feigning sleep.

Exactly my reason for bringing it up was to explain that it isn't a factor in my defending the parents. Some freepers who have defended the family have been accused of bias because they are fellow Mormons and are trying to somehow protect the Mormon faith by defending the family, which is silly. It says right in my profile that I am Mormon and from Utah, so I felt like I needed to clarify that being Mormon has nothing to do with it. If it was a family member that did it, then execute them no matter what religion they are. Feel free to speculate, like all of us have been doing but I will continue to feel free to disagree and say why I disagree with you. No offense intended. Sorry for my earlier sarcasm.

Possible scenario - Edmonds, or someone else, was blackmailing the Smarts about the gay business, they got sick of paying, saw a kidnapping/ransom as the next step.

Polygamists grow their own wives, they basically take multiple wives from their own clan or from another polygamist clan. They like them young, but kidnapping a girl would bring attention to them, and I just don't see that happening.

That would seem to present a problem for the younger males seeking wives. Do they then go outside the circle of polygamist clans to find a wife?

A "fundamentalist" (for lack of a better word) Mormon group that knew about what was going on with the Smart family as reported in the Enquirer may indeed be motivated to take her away from that environment. If she was aware of what was going on, she might have even gone willingly.

Sorry if you took my posts to be 'ballistic.' These threads are about Elizabeth Smart, and yet we keep hearing about polygamy and secret promisings of girls to old polygamist guys, etc. It gets tiring, to be really honest, of having to debunk this time after time to people, sometimes the same people.

This was not meant to be an attack. I have written a few responses to him explaining why I don't agree with his post and explained my opinion on the matter. No flame intended.

To me, it is flawed reasoning to say that every kidnapping case should get the same media coverage. I don't think it should. Chandra Levy got even more media coverage and nobody seemed to blame the attention on the fact that her family was rich, white, democrat, religious, or what not. We all know that it got the attention it did because of politics and nobody seemed to care. She wasn't even an innocent little girl, like these other two cases.

Well, what I meant was, according to the Enquirer they had a lot of gay porn on their computers. According to the Enquirer, one of the men had tried to erase his stuff but it was still retrievable.

I can say this: if these are not true, the family has an excellent suit against the Enquirer. But the Enquirer usually is careful to check multiple sources because of the times they've been sued. Hmmm, I wonder what the heck is going on.
