The Senate Judiciary Committee has marked-up S. 1291, a student amnesty bill which would allow illegal aliens to attend state universities at in-state tuition rates and save them from deportation orders by adjusting their status.
This bill is grossly offensive and unfair to us citizens who will be subsidizing the education of illegal criminal aliens with our tax dollars!
According to a committee staffer, this bill is a top priority for Daschle and the Dems (and even some Republicans), and a floor debate and vote may be scheduled soon.
It appears Sen. Daschle's new strategy is to try to sneak through piecemeal amnesties like this one.
CitizensLobby.com urges all concerned citizens to contact your Senators at http://www.citizenslobby.com/congress.htm and demand they oppose S. 1291.
When will the pandering scumbags be held accountable for not following their oaths to protect the actual citizens of this country?
Bingo! This is already the law in California. Of course if you come here
from Texas, you will pay out of state rates. Is this a great
country or what?
Oh yeah, they have been doing this since FDR.
The subsidies that allow for in-state tuition discounts come from taxpayers that live in that state as well as from those paying out-of-state tuition. The difference here in Virginia between in-state and out-of-state tuition ranges from $6,000 to $9,000 per semester which works out to a subsidy ofsomewhere between $48,000 and $72,000 over their four year college term. Why should my state taxes pay for someone that is not even an American to attend college here that I cannot afford to attend partly becaue of the excessive state taxes I am paying? The part that is not subsidized by taxpayers within the state is paid for in the larger tuition from out-of-state residents. So if I elect to go to UMD, part of my high tuition bill is going to pay for someone that is not an American.
If this passes I will be outraged (not that half that crap that has passed recently hasn't already done that). Of course, we cannot depend on Bush to veto this - he will probably lobby congress to pass it.
The one responsible for this beauty is not Daschle but Orrin Hatch. from the bill:
Mr. HATCH introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary
A BILL
To amend the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to permit States to determine State residency for higher education purposes and to authorize the cancellation of removal and adjustment of status of certain alien college-bound students who are long-term United States residents.
