Chicago OKs Use of Mexico ID Cards

CHICAGO, Jun 21, 2002 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- The City Council has approved use of identification cards issued by the Mexican consulate that supporters say will give undocumented immigrants better access to financial and public services.

With Wednesday's vote, Chicago joins a small but growing number of major cities, including Los Angeles, to validate the ID cards. The cards allow bearers to open bank accounts, borrow library books and use other services.

"Our economy couldn't exist without the hardworking Mexican nationals who come here," said Alderman Edward Burke, who introduced the ordinance.

Critics say recognizing the cards amounts to the city's sanctioning illegal immigration.

"They are breaking the law by being here," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Washington-based Federation for American Immigrant Reform. "And the city is helping them break the law."

will give undocumented immigrants better access

If undocumented means illegal, then it appears a bit Orwellian to use a word meaning something different...

The cards allow bearers to open bank accounts, borrow library books and use other services, while making a complete mockery of our sovereignty and entire system of laws.

I'm sure the terrorists will appreciate this special ID card.

Do you think the officials in Chicago have a tight grasp on what THE WAR ON TERRORISM is all about?!

Hey, the critics are right for once.

We should not be surprised...they got the go-ahead from the White House...or as it will soon be known as Casa Blanka. Nothing like giving one's country away to people who have no respect for its laws. The first thing Illegal Mexicans do when they come here is brake a law. I came here as an imigrant and have respected the laws of this nation. Being here is a privilage. A precious gift. I ahve served this nation and sworn to deffend its constitution. Not to fudge as it seems politically appropriate. Some one should remind the Bush clan that...but then they seem to think that their political promises are subject to the moment's best outcome for them in politics. Like father like son.

I nominate this statement for the Gross Exaggeration of the Year award.

The ultimate aim:

A colossal hijacking operation is in full swing even now. Its primary target is the United States of America, but it is aimed at all the other nations of North and South America as well. It is the FTAA, the so-called Free Trade Area of the Americas, which proposes nothing less than the economic and political merger of the 34 nations of the Western Hemisphere.

Bush has nothing to do with this. It's all about voting. Corrupt people do corrupt things. Hiltlary is from Chicago as is Daley. Dead people and illegals can vote for Democrats who wish to destroy this country. This will help.

Want someone to blame for this trend? Blame the S.F. Board of Supervisors. From SF Weekly, the less looney of the two free leftist tabloids in Sin Freaksicko, April 24, 2002:

In a quiet yet dramatic nationwide trend, a wallet-size leaf of plastic called a matrícula consular is opening up a world of privilege for undocumented Mexicans; the privilege will be difficult to take away. Four months ago, Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval sponsored legislation that made San Francisco the first U.S. city to require hospitals, schools, police, and other public agencies to accept, as official documentation, ID cards issued by Mexican consulates.

Since then police in several states, including Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico, began accepting the cards as no-immigration-questions-asked ID. Wells Fargo Bank followed step, recognizing the cards at branches nationwide. Bank of America and others have done the same (no doubt delighting the ghost of S.F. immigrant and BofA founder A.P. Giannini). To illegal immigrants -- who are often booked on petty charges as John Does for lack of ID and then turned over to the INS for deportation, and who are frequently mugged because they carry cash for lack of bank accounts -- the IDs now being issued by 47 consulates represent a lifestyle revolution.

In San Francisco, every weekday morning since January, hundreds of people have lined up on Ellis Street outside the Flood Building, waiting their turn to apply for ID cards at the Mexican Consulate on the fifth floor. Well-dressed husbands and wives crowd into the elevators, pretty babies in tow, so giddy and talkative and downright optimistic that they seem to drive their office-working elevator companions to irritation.

I pass by this line on my way to WORK every day, and I don't see any particularly "good-looking husbands and wives" -- believe me, I would notice the wives. And babies are rarely not adorable, and if they aren't, it would be cruel to mention that.

Hey, Chicago! Benjamin Dover, here it comes again!

Bull. Know of any Canadian city accepting the Mexican matricula as official ID for illegals?

For that matter, is there any city in Brazil that will accept Mexican matriculas as official ID for illegals wanting to facilitate drifting through the cracks and getting accepted in society in such ways as opening bank accounts in Brazil?

So far, this has only happened in big, corrupt U.S. cities with large illegal-alien populations from Mexico. Try getting a matricula accepted as ID in Pittsburgh - or any other place that has few Mexican illegals and isn't Quebecized.

Get the sticker!
