"Fleischer called the disclosure of the language of the NSA intercepts "alarmingly specific."

READ CAREFULLY

Excuse me? Is this something that we did not know before hand? This has been widely reported. Maybe not the exact wording, but still reported. I understand the classified is classified. But nothing stated so far reveales sources and methods or exposes any of our officers. NSA just hates that "I" word. If NSA does not think people understand that it intercepts 1 to 2 million pieces of data per hour, then I think they need to do a simple Internet search by themselves. BTW, NSA is the only agency with no oversight. That could be a good thing and or a bad thing.

I think the American Public has a right to know some of these things. No they do not need to know sources and methods. No they do not need specifics that can danger our officers in the field. But some 4500 Americans are either dead or missing. To place the "Classified" stamp on everything is very suspect to me.

This release of information is laughable as a threat to national security. This chest pounding has more to do with politics than national security. Hell if this was Clinton this would be called a cover-up.

The american Public has a right to know what happened here. with some details. Not what anyone Intelligence Agency, or Politician wants them to know. How many times does this have to happen before we learn.

You evidently have never worked with any classified or intelligence information. The specific wording could compromise where we got the information from and possibly lead to the death of agents in the field -- you never know. The American people DO NOT have the right to know classified or intelligence information when we have people's lives at stake. Why do you think there is such a thing as "Need to Know?" Been there, done that and classified and/or intelligence information needs to stay classified and people take the information they have to their graves! You sign an oath not to divulge classified information, and that means anyone coming in contact with it needs to keep their mouths shut! We are not talking Confidential here or For Official Use Only, but highly classified that requires special clearances to even see! People amaze me -- I wouldn't have said it was a clinton cover-up either when it comes to classified/intelligence information. Why don't we just take and open the CIA to tours so people like you can see everything they are working on and let the world know at the same time? Or how about getting on email from the CIA so we know what they are working on! (sarcasm) You see classified/intelligence information -- you zip your lips period -- Loose lips sink ships isn't just a catchy phrase! End of rant!

I would agree with you most times.... but not on this one. Bin Laden is quoted as saying a few years ago that he stopped using a sat phone when he found out we were listening in to his calls...

One of these primadonas trying to impress the cocktail party set needs to see the inside of Leavenworth because of this leak....

Well, gee, then I guess that the people making the call are likely to forget what they said and who they were talking to, and how they were talking.

Good grief, use your head. You might not be able to figure it out, but the person MAKING the calls can. As to it being widely reported, that's exactly what the problem is, this should never have been released, never printed, and never repeated.

Excuse me, but you're well off base. The specificity that was being objected to was not that it was an "intercept" nor that it came from the NSA. Nor, probably, even the gist of their meaning.

Instead, it was the leaking of the actual verbatim translations. Consequently, the people who were intercepted now know they were intercepted, along with where and how.

And that, my friend, is a flagrant breach of secrecy. A busted source...
