MOSCOW (Reuters) - Supermodel Cindy Crawford said Thursday she was considering taking a multi-million dollar trip into space with Russian cosmonauts.
"I would go if I could be there and back in a week," Crawford told reporters during a visit to the Russian capital.
"If they invite me, maybe, I don't know," said the 36-year-old U.S. model, whose personal fortune has been estimated at more than $30 million.
Valery Korzun, the new commander of the International Space Station (ISS) joked earlier this month he would rather see Crawford aboard the outpost than Lance Bass of U.S. boy band 'NSYNC, who is preparing himself for an October trip.
If given final approval by Russia's space agency Rosaviakosmos, Bass, 23, would be the third amateur to pay his way into orbit after American millionaire Dennis Tito flew last year and South African Internet entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth blasted off in April.
Both Tito and Shuttleworth are reported to have paid $20 million for their seats aboard a Soyuz craft, funds sorely needed by Russia's cash-strapped space program.
Korzun and his crewmates aboard the ISS, Sergei Treshchyov and Peggy Whitson, are scheduled to spend four-and-a-half months aboard the station.
