The first comes courtesy of Terry Lynn Barton, a U.S. Forest Service employee who stands accused of purposely starting the Hayman fire in Colorado. So far, Hayman has charbroiled 120,000 acres, chased 5,500 people from their houses and destroyed 25 homes. Firefighters fear the fire might rage all summer.

I think that a crime committed by a federal employee should be punished even more severely, because of the abuse of public trust that it represents.

The agency also seems to be taking the incident seriously, and appears to be in the process of reviewing its moose-shooing techniques. Did they ever consider just giving it some cheese?

If we let a US President get away with showing complete contempt for the Judicial Branch of our Government, how can we possibly hold any lower ranking official responsible for any malfeasance?

It turns out logging had served two purposes: It harvested an important renewable resource, and it helped clean up dead and dying trees as well as other dry ground "fuel." Logging made forests less susceptible to catastrophic fires.bears repeating
