Southwest Airlines insisted yesterday that it has long charged larger passengers for an extra seat, despite statements from airline officials a day earlier that it would begin doing so later this month.

"The policy always has been that they have to purchase an additional seat," said Southwest spokeswoman Beth Harbin. "I've been here for eight years, and I've always known about it."

If you take up a lot of space (over one space) and require more fuel to go from one spot in the air to another, then you should pay.

For a long time in stores they charge more for xx and up sizes for clothes and there has been no recourse.

People who are bald can't pay less for their haircuts.

So life has it's limitations and Southwest is a business and not a charity.

Yes and average size passengers have the right to their own seat. I was once seated between two nice but huge women for about 2,000 miles. It took me a week and a chiropractic adjustment to recover. I didn't have to worry about the sleazy food as I couldn't even lower much less reach my tray.

Like I said, nobody charges a balding guy less for his hair-cut.
XXX clothing costs more to buy.

What makes you think those two flowers next to you didn't reach over and take what was on your tray? Would you know when you were so busy struggling to get what could have been your last breath in life?

Make 'em pay by the pound!

Have you ever sat next to a "person of size" on a long flight? We're not just talking cramped here, but there is a deodorant factor too!
