Thanks for posting this well-deserved tribute to J. Carter Brown, JH. He made the National Gallery of Art a place where the average person felt welcome and indeed, encouraged to visit. Critics may deplore blockbusters, but Carter Brown understood how important they are to bringing visitors in to see the great masterpieces of museums such as the National Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum and others. As this editorial notes, he also was a major force in creating the Washington landscape we know now. He was one of a kind and will be missed.
